Coordinate habitat assessments, restoration design, permitting, implementation and monitoring. Field work in adverse weather conditions will be required at times. Contribute to the organization, development and execution of education and outreach projects and programs to local schools and communities, including volunteer, interest and advocacy groups and environmental education organizations. Examples of Work Performed:Accurately and precisely collects, organizes, enters, and conducts quality control on data. Records accurate, legible, and detailed handwritten notes regarding field observations and/or work procedures. Data types will include but are not limited to GPS, water quality, streamflow, vegetation, habitat, well, topographic, fisheries, climate, and geomorphic. Travel to and from work sites in a direct and safe manner, travel may involve the use of pickup trucks, motorized and non-motorized boats, ATVs, snow machines, and/or walking. Keeps track of vehicle and equipment maintenance. Assists with assessments and implementation of restoration and enhancement treatments, including those associated with in-channel restoration, road treatments, fish passage restoration, revegetation, fence construction, and weed control. Disseminates field-crew instructions and ensures tasks are performed efficiently, precisely, accurately, and completely. In collaboration with others, responsible for the data quality (accuracy, precision, legibility, completeness) collected by crew. Provides input to improve crew efficiency.Establishes a scope of activities and relationships with other sections of the YN Fisheries Program project partners, and landowners. Identifies information needs and develops short-and long-range goals for habitat restoration throughout the Southern sections. Develops and manages project budgets and ensures that work products comply with Tribal policy and funding agency requirements. Identifies funding sources and prepares proposals for restoration and monitoring projects. Works with resource managers, including Conservation District employees, city and county representatives, tribal colleagues, state and federal agency biologists. By utilizing the diverse tools and skills that these people bring to a given project, the greatest amount of work will be accomplished for the benefit of treaty sources. Develops and conducts educational seminars for public schools, agencies, conservations organizations, and agricultural producers.Develop subcontracts and inspects work for contract compliance.Maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of NEPA-Endangered Species Act and consults with Federal agencies to ensure compliance while working off-reservation. Independently prepare all related permits and documentation for habitat restoration activities. Writes progress and completion reports pursuant to contract guidelines. Provides activity updates at Fisheries Program staff meetings.Presents finding to technical and stakeholder groups. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of stream ecology, riverine mechanics, irrigation management, environmental regulations and salmonid habitat requirements. Knowledge of post-implementation effectiveness monitoring of restoration projects. Knowledge of federal natural resource management policies.Knowledge of the life histories of anadromous and resident fishes of the Pacific Northwest.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Ability to manage several projects simultaneously. Ability to develop and deliver presentations and educational seminars to funding entities, professional organizations public schools and agricultural procedures.Possess strong interpersonal skills. Ability to carry out activities without direct supervision. Ability to conduct literature reviews and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to make formal, scientific presentations of original findings and the work of others, both orally and in writing. Ability to make effective oral and written presentations to non-technical audiences. Demonstrated ability to plan, promote, organize and implement projects independently Sensitivity to Tribal culture and values, and the ability to work with and bring together individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.Ability to handle difficult private and public situations with firmness, tact and courtesy.Ability to travel and to work outdoors under various weather conditions, and to perform physical labor. Minimum Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Management or related field. Required to pass pre-employment drug test.Willingness to work in remote areas and adverse environmental conditions. Must be hardworking, self-motivated and willing to work both cooperatively and independently. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Tribal Driver Permit with Defensive Driving Course certificate (to be updated every 2 years). Preferred Requirements:Must be in good physical health and can work long hours under various weather conditions without direct supervision.Ability to lift and carry up to 50-pound loads over short distances.
