The Heavy Equipment Mechanicis responsible fortheinspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Army tactical and combat vehicles, heavy equipment, and material handling equipment (MHE)at a contractor-managed equipment turn-in site. This role ensures that equipment being received or turned in is serviceable, safe, and compliant withU.S. Army technical manuals (TMs), regulations, and contract requirements. The mechanic supports the turn-in process byidentifyingdeficiencies, performing corrective actions, and preparing equipment for storage, transfer, or disposal. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors and pneumatic tools. This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. Responsibilities Perform technical inspections on heavy equipment, tactical vehicles, and MHE during the turn-in process. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system faults. Conduct preventive and corrective maintenancein accordance withArmy TMs, DA PAM 750-8, and AR 750-1. Ensure compliance with Army safety standards and environmental regulations when servicing equipment. Perform repairs and adjustments onengines, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, steering, suspension, and hydraulic systems. Service and maintain MHE (e.g., forklifts, cranes, loaders, rough terrain equipment). Conduct vehicle services (PMCS, lubrication, part replacement) tomaintainserviceability. Identifyunserviceable or non-repairable equipment and prepareappropriate documentationfor disposition. Record inspections, maintenance, and repairs using Army-approved forms and systems (DA Form 2404/5988-E, GCSS-Army). Assistsupply and property accountability staff in updating records for equipment condition codes. Maintain work orders, parts requisitions, and job completion records in compliance withISO 9001:2015 QMS. Follow allOSHA, Army, and company safety standardsduring maintenance operations. Use proper PPE, tools, and test equipment when working on Army vehicles and equipment. Ensure compliance withHAZMAT handling, storage, and disposal requirements. Coordinate with supply technicians and inspectors during mass turn-in events. Provide technicalexpertiseon equipment serviceability and condition coding. Assistin preparing vehicles and heavy equipment for shipment, transfer, or long-term storage. Qualifications Education: Highschool diploma or equivalent is preferred; however, equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted. Experience: 3–5 years of experience as a mechanic on military or heavy equipment. Prior U.S. Army or contractor experience with tactical vehicles, combat systems, or MHE strongly preferred. U.S. Army maintenance standards and technical manuals. Preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS). Armylogisticssystems such asGCSS-Army. Proficiencyin diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Ability to read and interpret Army TMs, schematics, and technical drawings. Strong problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills. Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment. Ability to operate MHE and obtain Army licensing (OF 346) asrequired. Must have a valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance. Must have a real ID. Must be able to obtain andmaintain a Common Access Card (CAC). Must be able to obtain Tier1/ NACI (Public trust) background eligibility. Basicproficiencyin the English language (reading and writing). Proficiencyin Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Must receive a favorable background check and drug testingresults. Must be able to travel within the United States asrequired. This position may require up to 25% travel. Employees maybe requiredto perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands & Work Environment: Must be able tolift upto 50 lbs. and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments. Must also meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high, or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions. This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, periodic overtime, and exposure to heat, dust, cold, and adverse weather conditions.
