The Priority Consideration Date for applications is April 12, 2026* Here’s a little about Cal Poly Pomona Cal Poly Pomona is one of the nation’s leading polytechnic universities and a proud member of the 22‑campus California State University system. Known for its hands‑on “become by doing” philosophy, the university prepares students to solve real‑world challenges through experiential learning and applied research. Located on a scenic 1,400‑acre campus in Southern California, Cal Poly Pomona serves more than 26,000 students across eight academic colleges and is widely recognized for excellence in engineering, business, architecture, agriculture, and hospitality management. The campus is experiencing continued growth and transformation, supported by strategic investments in facilities, infrastructure, and sustainability. Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) plays a central role in this progress, stewarding the university’s physical environment—including more than200 buildings and approximately5.5million gross square feet of facilities. With a team of approximately160 employees, FP&M oversees campus planning, design and construction, facilities operations, utilities, and sustainability initiatives that support the university’s mission and long‑term strategic vision. About this role Reporting to the Vice President for Administrative Affairs who also serves as the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Associate Vice President (SAVP) for Facilities Planning & Management provides executive leadership for the university’s comprehensive facilities enterprise. This role oversees facilities and maintenance, capital planning, design and construction, business services, and campus physical planning. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for shaping the long‑term stewardship and development of Cal Poly Pomona’s physical campus. The SAVP leads a large and diverse workforce, guides a significant capital program addressing more than $2 billion in deferred maintenance, capital improvement, and infrastructure needs, and partners closely with university leadership to ensure that facilities planning supports the institution’s academic mission, student success, and operational excellence. The role also carries a unique responsibility: oversight of the university’s water treatment plant—one of only two such facilities operated within the CSU system—positioning this leader at the forefront of infrastructure stewardship and sustainability innovation on campus. Scope & Impact Leadership and Strategic Direction Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for Facilities Planning & Management, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission and long‑term institutional priorities. Lead a high‑performing organization of approximately160 facilities professionals across operations, capital planning, design and construction, and business services. Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and operational standards that support service excellence, safety, and accountability. Guide organizational planning, workforce development, succession planning, and recruitment to sustain a best‑in‑class facilities organization. Promote an open communication culture that encourages feedback and drives positive departmental growth. Apply strategic understanding of interdepartmental functions to drive alignment, remove operational bottlenecks, and advance efficiency across the organization. Facilities Operations, Maintenance, and Sustainability Oversight Oversee campus‑wide facilities operations, maintenance, and grounds services supporting more than200 buildings across a 1,400‑acre campus. Ensure effective preventive and corrective maintenance programs using the university’s computerized maintenance management systems. Direct strategies for addressing deferred maintenance and facility renewal through capital planning and operational initiatives. Promote sustainability initiatives related to facilities systems, utilities, fleet, and campus infrastructure. Foster a culture of safety, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and responsive service. Capital Planning, Design, and Construction Provide executive oversight of all capital planning, design, and construction initiatives across the university. Lead development and execution of long‑range facilities strategies aligned with enrollment growth, academic priorities, and campus master planning. Oversee project delivery including procurement, contractor management, design review, budgeting, scheduling, and regulatory compliance. Ensure successful delivery of capital projects while maintaining quality, safety, cost control, and risk mitigation. Campus Physical Planning and Capital Program Development Direct the development and ongoing implementation of the Campus Physical Master Plan. Lead preparation and submission of the university’s Five‑Year Capital Outlay Program. Coordinate space planning initiatives and oversee campus space data reporting and facilities planning documentation. Serve as a key liaison with the CSU Chancellor’s Office, Board of Trustees, and regulatory agencies regarding capital planning and facilities development. Financial Stewardship and Business Operations Provide financial oversight of FP&M budgets, resource allocation, and long‑term financial planning. Organizational Excellence and Continuous Improvement Champion data‑driven decision‑making, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives. Implement process improvements and Lean methodologies to strengthen operational efficiency and service delivery. Establish performance dashboards and reporting tools to track service levels and organizational outcomes. Campus Collaboration and External Engagement Serve as a trusted partner to university leadership, collaborating with academic and administrative units to support teaching, research, and campus operations. Represent the university with local, state, and federal agencies, professional organizations, and CSU system‑wide groups. Maintain strong relationships with contractors, consultants, and external partners involved in campus facilities initiatives.
