Base pay range $115,128.00/yr - $160,867.20/yr San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is a public hospital and clinic system fully accredited by The Joint Commission. The Medical Center operates outpatient clinics throughout San Mateo County and an acute-care hospital in San Mateo. The mission of SMMC is to "partner with patients to provide excellent care with compassion and respect." As part of the San Mateo County Health System, the Medical Center serves the healthcare needs of all residents of San Mateo County, with an emphasis on education and prevention. SMMC is seeking a qualified Radiologic Technologist I/II/III. We are looking for someone with the ability to perform all standard/routine radiographic procedures. Candidate must also be able to perform or be able to be trained in performing procedures in at least two specialized diagnostic areas in an efficient manner. Candidate must be able to work independently in providing a full range of varied shift coverage that includes PMs, Nights, Weekends and Holidays. The incumbent must be able to gain cooperation of patients in order to obtain high quality images. In addition, the incumbent should have the ability to work with patients of varying ages. Mammography and/or Computerized Tomography (CT) scanning experience is strongly preferred. Currently, there are one regular, full-time vacancy and three relief vacancies. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Radiologic Technologist I ( $55.35 - $69.20 Hourly) is the entry level class of this series performing all standard and routine radiographic procedures and may be trained in more complex procedures and specialized functional areas. Incumbents may promote to the II level upon demonstrated competence in either mammography or invasive fluoroscopy procedures. Radiologic Technologist II ( $58.55 - $73.21 Hourly ) is the journey level class of this series performing all standard and routine radiographic procedures and procedures in at least one specialized diagnostic area. Incumbents may promote to the III level upon demonstrated competence in either mammography or invasive fluoroscopy procedures and one additional specialized area. Radiologic Technologist III ( $61.86 - $77.34 Hourly) is the advanced journey level class of this series performing all standard and routine radiographic procedures and procedures in at least two specialized diagnostic areas. Alternately, the III level can also be used for staff working independently in providing a full range of off shift coverage. NOTE: The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, term, unclassified, and regular classified vacancies. Examples Of Duties Note: Duties are listed by functional area. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Radiology Perform radiographic examinations of varying difficulty by positioning the patient and programming proper exposure factors and table movements. Select proper techniques to produce quality images while keeping dose low. Provide radiation protection in accordance with prescribed standards. Does portable radiographic work in Surgery, Intensive Care, Emergency Department, Medical/Surgical Inpatient Units and the Morgue. Computerized/Computed Tomography (CT) Perform various CT scans following set protocols or radiologist instructions and instruct patients in preparation for the procedure. Perform patient positioning and table movement. Identify anatomies and produce images of pathologies. Select appropriate equipment for various types of procedures. Administer oral and rectal contrast media for enhancement of scan. Prepare contrast media for injection. Assist in CT guided biopsies. Perform quality control and record results. Interventional Procedures Prepare examination room for type of examination scheduled and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available. Prepare patient for examination and coordinate with nursing duty station on patient preparation. Maintain established aseptic procedure protocols. Assist physicians in performing head, body, leg, gastrointestinal and renal angiographic and vascular procedures. Respond to emergencies as needed. Schedule and instruct patients in interventional procedures. Mammography Perform quality, routine and specialty mammographic views. Perform quality controls and record results. Maintain infection control standards. Provide patient education/instruction and scheduling. All Assignments Assist in training Radiologic Technology students in various diagnostic procedures in specialty areas. Assume responsibility for accurate data collection for quality assurance procedures. Perform mandated quality controls and record results. Administer CPR to patients in emergencies. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Licensure/Certification : All levels : Certification as a Radiologic and Fluoroscopic Technologist issued by the State of California (CRT); and Licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT). Additional for the II level, if assigned to Mammography: Certification in Mammography issued by the State of California (CRT). Additional for the III level: Certification in Mammography issued by the State of California (CRT) and Certification in Mammography issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certification in Computerized/Computed Tomography (CT)issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Note: The level and scope of the knowledge and skills listed below are related to job duties as defined under Distinguishing Characteristics. Knowledge of: Applicable X-ray and imaging equipment and techniques. Regional and gross anatomy and physiology of the human body. Trans-sectional anatomy of the human body. Principles, methods and techniques and equipment associated with the two other specialized areas of competence. X-ray occupational radiation hazards. Procedures and use of pressure injectors, monitoring equipment, aseptic techniques and contrast media. Skill/Ability to: Follow oral and written instructions. Deal tactfully with patients and physicians. Assisting in instructing and training others. Administering first aid and CPR. Positioning patients and making sharp, clear images of designated areas. Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is: Radiologic Technologist II : One year of radiologic experience which has resulted in demonstrated competence in X-ray examinations and in either Invasive Fluoroscopy Procedures or Mammography. Radiologic Technologist III : Two years of radiologic experience which has resulted in demonstrated competence in X-ray examinations and in either Invasive Fluoroscopy Procedures or Mammography and at least one other diagnostic procedural area. Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, extra-help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination. The examination process will consist of an application screening (pass/fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification .
