Our facilities include Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and the Kaua'i Region Clinics, where your skills can truly shine! This is a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive outpatient dermatologic care to a community with significant unmet needs for accessible dermatologic services.


In this role, you will evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of dermatologic conditions across all ages, including acne, rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, skin infections, benign and suspicious skin lesions, skin cancers, pre-cancerous conditions, pigmentary disorders, and hair and nail disorders. You will perform in-office diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within your comfort level, develop individualized treatment plans, and educate patients on skin health, prevention, and treatment options. Collaboration is key; you will work alongside primary care providers and a dedicated healthcare team to ensure timely diagnosis, treatment, and continuity of care, while maintaining accurate medical records and participating in quality improvement initiatives. Please note that this regional position may require long hours, weekend and holiday work, and travel to various facilities within the region to meet patient care needs.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. Applicants are required to provide evidence of education, certification, and licensure.

EDUCATION:

• Graduation from an accredited medical or osteopathic school with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree; AND
• Completion of a residency program accredited by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

LICENSURE:

• A current license to practice medicine in the State of Hawai'i is required. The physician must be duly licensed as a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy and must be approved for Active Staff membership and clinical privileges on the Medical Staff of the Hospital in accordance with the Hospital's Medical Staff bylaws and Rules and Regulations. The physician is also required to maintain Active Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges at the Hospital throughout the term of this Agreement; AND
• A current, valid State of Hawai'i type #3 driver's license is preferred; AND
• Current registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and a current State Controlled Substance license from the State of Hawai'i Department of Public Safety's Narcotics Enforcement Division (NED) are mandatory.

CERTIFICATIONS:

• A current certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (adults, child, infant, etc.) for Healthcare Workers is required; AND
• Board certification or board eligibility in Dermatology by an appropriate certifying organization must be obtained within three (3) years of employment unless specifically exempted by the Regional Chief Executive Officer (RCEO).
• Eligibility for applicable federal and state provider credentials and payer enrollment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience providing comprehensive outpatient dermatology care, along with a background in working in a rural, community health, or medically underserved setting, demonstrates a strong commitment to developing specialty services and improving access to dermatologic care.

If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
