Registered Nurse

Registered NurseProvides skilled professional nursing services to students with medically complex health needs. Analyzes the total health care of students with chronic illnesses/disorders, and performs designated routine non-invasive and invasive procedures as established by physician orders. Attends to any students health needs as indicated in the School Health Services Manual.Essential Functions:Performs routine and prescribed invasive and non-invasive procedures including, but not limited to; gastric tube feedings; breathing treatments; diabetic glucose monitoring; urinary catheterizations; and tracheostomy care and suctioning.Identifies and monitors student health status through needs assessments, screening procedures, examinations, observations, and analyses.Establishes and maintains appropriate medical records, logs, indices, and schedules on daily and school year diagnoses, care plans, procedures, treatments, monitoring, adverse reactions, and notifications.Provides basic first aid and attends to student health needs as indicated in the School Health Services Manual.Distributes/administers prescription and non-prescription medication to students in accordance with applicable laws and directives, following guidelines described in school health policy manual.Assists the student, school personnel, and parents in understanding and coping with a student's disability or condition.Designs intervention in conjunction with other health and education team members to prevent further disability.Facilitates Telehealth appointments for students.Performs other duties as assigned.Probation: Six (6) monthsQualifications:Open Requirements: Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Florida State Board of Nursing; OR graduation from a School of Registered Nursing meeting the minimum requirements of the Florida State Board of Nursing with authorization from the Florida State Board of Nursing to practice as a RN in accordance with Florida Statutes. Must maintain same during employment in this class.Promotional Requirements: NALicensing: Must secure licensure as a RN by the Florida State Board of Nursing prior to appointment and must maintain same during employment in this class. Dependent upon assignment, may be required to have a valid Driver's License prior to appointment and which must be maintained during employment in this class. CPR certification must be obtained prior to appointment and maintained during employment in this class.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and procedures in providing nursing servicesThorough knowledge of medical terminology and common medicationsWorking knowledge of clinic procedures, instruments, equipment, and the uses and effects of medicationsKnowledge of childhood illnessesKnowledge of First Aid and CPRStrong skills in the use of glucometer, nebulizer, catheters, IVAC feeding machines and equipment, suction machine, and related medical equipmentStrong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skillsStrong word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skillsStrong organizational skillsStrong time management skillsStrong skills in establishing and maintaining information, record, document, and file systemsAbility to administer medications and treatments adjusting to the student's conditionAbility to initiate appropriate emergency measuresPhysical ability to lift, move and position students for procedures and transportingAbility to inventory and order suppliesAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, other employees, parents, and the general public
