Job Description Germanna Community College is a public, open‑access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The college is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a regional leader, providing quality learning experiences that enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. The campus is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA, between Washington, D.C., Richmond, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Chesapeake Bay, offering a diverse and vibrant community. Adjunct faculty members in the field of Introduction to Philosophy and Ethics are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. The position requires daytime, in‑person teaching assignments in Stafford, VA. Selected candidates will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background investigation, which may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, education verification, credit checks (when relevant), and other checks requested by the Virginia Community College System. Selected candidates may also be required to complete the Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest available at The teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs; adjunct appointments are pool postings, and there is no guarantee of continued employment beyond each engagement. Travel may be required to all campus locations. This position is full time, part‑time opportunities may be available on a course‑by‑course basis. Key Qualifications Master’s Degree with a minimum of eighteen graduate semester hours in the specific discipline. Official transcripts submitted prior to final offer. Proficiency in relevant technology and learning management systems to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication. Commitment to student engagement in online learning, maintaining consistent communication and virtual support mechanisms. Technical capability (access to Wi‑Fi and computers) to teach remotely. Ability to teach in a variety of modalities, including virtual instruction. Competency and commitment to continuous professional development in virtual education. Completion of Growing with Canvas and TOPS 2.2 prior to teaching. Additional Considerations Prior teaching experience. Work experience in the field. Experience with online teaching. Proven experience developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments at a regionally accredited institution. Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.
