Equipment Support Technician (Mechanical / Electrical)

Location: Normal, IL
Start Date: Approximately August 10, 2026
Duration: Long-term opportunity (up to 2 years)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, approximately 40 hours/week (8-hour shifts). Occasional shift work may be required as the project evolves.

Power Labor is seeking mechanically and electrically inclined technicians to support automated material handling systems at Rivian Automotive in Normal, Illinois. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, automation, or manufacturing experience who are looking for stable, long-term work on a cutting-edge automotive manufacturing project.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections of automated material handling equipment.
  • Complete preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Inspect motors, sensors, controllers, charging equipment, control panels, and related components.
  • Identify equipment abnormalities and report maintenance issues.
  • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Replace or adjust components under the direction of the technical team.
  • Support equipment testing, startup, and production ramp-up activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.
  • Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and customer personnel.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and spare parts inventory.
  • Perform additional equipment support duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in one or more of the following:
    • Industrial Maintenance
    • Electrical Maintenance
    • Mechanical Maintenance
    • Automation
    • Robotics
    • Manufacturing Equipment
    • Conveyor Systems
    • PLC-Controlled Equipment
    • Automotive Manufacturing
  • Technical school, trade school, military technical training, or relevant college coursework is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read basic mechanical or electrical drawings is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Background check required.
  • Drug screening required.
  • Must successfully complete an online technical interview before hire.
  • Must be able to follow all safety procedures and customer requirements.
