Registered Nurse II - 8W Neuro Acute Care

Job Summary / Purpose Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. 8W is a 24-bed inpatient mixed General Surgery / Neuroscience unit for adult and geriatric patients located in the West wing on the 8th floor of the main hospital. All patient rooms are private. The floor manages a variety of general surgery and medicine patients as well as a focus on Neuroscience patients including Stroke patients, general neurology and neurosurgical patients and supports the Comprehensive Spine Center program. The mixed patient population provides a unique opportunity to learn about a variety of general surgery and medical diagnoses while also learning about specialized needs of the neuroscience patients. In the neuroscience realm the unit cares for patients with diagnoses ranging from strokes to brain tumors to spine surgeries. Qualifications and Training Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outside in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, from kneeling positions, bending and twisting at the waist, squatting, pinching, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reaching overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, using both legs, balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from floor, lift from overhead 25 lbs, exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected, recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, determine distance/relationship between objects, depth perception, peripheral vision, hearing acuity, gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, work in a latex safe environment, maintain tactile sensory functions. (Selected positions: maintain good olfactory sensory function, be qualified physically for respirator use.)
