Laboratory Support Technician II

Job Summary Position: Phlebotomist (Night Shift) at MO-SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – Lake Saint Louis. Work schedule is 9:30p.m. to 8:00a.m., including rotating weekends and holidays. Responsibilities Load and unload laboratory specimens from automated and non‑automated instrumentation. Collect, label, process, and preserve blood, urine, and other specimens. Perform waived and moderate‑complexity testing, and phlebotomy as required. Enter and manage laboratory orders within the electronic medical record system. Assist customers and staff with phone inquiries and specimen requests. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory work area. Update statistical records, label tubes, and schedule processing runs. Perform administrative duties such as admission activities, insurance verification, and order entry processing. Demonstrate constant alertness and safety while working in a high‑volume environment. Provide orientation to new hires and assist with employee training as needed. Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with ten years of relevant work experience. At least one year of laboratory experience, including phlebotomy. Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and documentation. Excellent communication skills; ability to use two patient identifiers. Capacity to work independently under general supervision. Physical Requirements Frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0–25lbs (occasionally 25–50lbs). Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use manual dexterity for repetitive movements. Good vision and depth perception for close and distant tasks; color discrimination required. Hearing and speaking ability to recognize alarms and communicate verbally. Regular keyboard use and data entry. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping. Rare climbing necessary. Required Licenses / Certifications Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
