Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade.

The Opportunity

The Behavior Intervention Developer (BID) will work within a cross-functional team led by the Director of Special Education to support CNCA Schools. The role of the Behavior Intervention Developer is to develop special education paraprofessional staff at CNCA schools through observation, coaching, and modeling. The BID will help design, implement, and monitor student behavioral intervention plans while building the capacity of school staff to implement these plans and supporting school-wide approaches to meeting the holistic needs of all youth.

Responsibilities

• Work effectively as a member of the Special Education team to support in the design and management of each schools' systems of positive behavioral supports
• Provide individual and group professional learning opportunities (including observation, coaching, and modeling) to school behavioral staff to build their capacity and skill set, and improve the effectiveness of intervention delivery
• Develop systems to support and monitor the implementation of specific tools (e.g. Behavior Intervention Plans, Behavior Intervention Maps)
• Provide consultation and training to school staff (including general and special educators and school leadership) on strategies for behavioral intervention, school-wide positive behavioral supports, and other topics as requested
• Assist in the oversight of collection and analysis of student behavior data and create reports to share with team members, families, and school leadership
• Participate in professional learning communities to enhance practice and create coherence (i.e., weekly individual supervision and twice monthly group supervision to expand skills and receive ongoing coaching and support, trainings, etc.)
• Support school teams with IEP processes, attend IEP to provide consultation, develop IEP goals review progress on goals and data, and present behavior intervention plans at IEP meetings;
• Conduct complete and comprehensive Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA); familiarity with VB MAPP and verbal behavior preferred (but not required)
• Develop Behavior Support Plans (BSP/BIP) and provide initial and ongoing support/training to stakeholders (e.g., BIIs, parents, teachers, etc.)
• Write complete IEP reports (e.g., goal writing to address behavioral and related skill deficits, BSP/BIP, service recommendations, etc.)
• Provide training and support in the following areas: observation and measurement (collecting, calculating and graphing data), functions of behavior, principles of behavior, A-B-C data, elementary verbal operant, and prompting and prompt fading
• Update and write progress reports per CNCA's guidelines and requirements
• Demonstrate effective managerial skills, handle and solve staff issues through discussion and feedback with staff and school site leadership

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis required; Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field may be considered
• Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) preferred
• At least two (2) years of special education experience in a public-school setting
• Spanish and English fluency preferred
• Valid and appropriate California Driver's License
• Valid vehicle liability insurance
• Experience or commitment working on a team as well as across teams
• Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment required
• A strong track record of providing crisis assessment, management, and behavioral interventions
• Ability to understand and navigate the political, social, economic, legal and cultural context facing urban charter schools and the students they serve
