Recreation Therapist II

Position Overview Department/Unit: Psychiatry Social Work Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $50,639.00 - $75,959.00 Job Description The Recreation Therapist is responsible for the evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, documentation, and reporting of all patients assigned. The Recreation Therapist develops and administers therapeutic groups that enhance the patients' physical, cognitive, social, psychological and emotional well‑being. The Recreation Therapist II acts as an advanced clinician for the department, providing recreation therapy services to mental health clients and performing additional assignments for the department. Key responsibilities include: Administer patient evaluation and treatment employing recreation therapy procedures. Develop and administer therapeutic groups to serve the patient population. Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team and patients. Schedule patients and maintain written and verbal communication regarding patient and departmental concerns. Submit accurate billing information. Participate in teaching, including annual inservice to peers and clinical instruction for students. Act as advanced clinician, precepting other staff and sharing clinical expertise within the department. Complete a pre‑approved interdisciplinary project for the department. Promote and contribute to sanitary and housekeeping policies for clinic and general staff areas. Participate in department and unit quality improvement activities. Minimum Qualifications Active certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (or be eligible for and actively seeking certification). Minimum of 18 months of acute care or inpatient hospital experience. Ability to provide therapeutic interventions in all delivery arenas. Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals. Document patient care on established forms. Effective communication with patients, families, employees, and others. Active listening, compliance, and engagement in interactive dialogues. Ability to seek input from others to achieve consensus. Ability to share clinical expertise with department members. Basic mathematics proficiency: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, percentages. Honesty, punctuality, and adherence to ethical standards. Accurate record‑keeping and good judgment in all job functions. Acceptance of direction and constructive orders. Cooperative teamwork and conflict avoidance. Adherence to AMC’s policies, procedures, and practices. Problem‑solving skills to resolve grievances and disagreements. Proactive problem anticipation and resolution to ensure continuity of patient care. Data collection, fact establishment, and conclusion drawing. Commitment to continuing education for job performance improvement.
