Certified Medical Assistant

Position Purpose The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the providers in front and back-office procedures. The incumbent has the added responsibility of providing a direct liaison between provider and patient, making certain that the appropriate provider has addressed any patient questions or concerns. This position may float to various sites within the health system. Nature and Scope Escort patients from the waiting room to the examination room promptly. Take vital signs as per guidelines. Maintain examination room stock and prepare lab specimens for processing. Document all patient communications. Complete referral forms, obtain authorizations, and keep records. Schedule patients for tests and handle phone calls in order of importance, filing into patient charts. Administer treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies. Assist with tracking and coordination of patient test results, reminder of overdue health maintenance topics, and support the Medical Home Care Team in delivering patient‑centered care. Review medications, set goals, and provide patient education during the rooming process. Document and educate patients on cast, splint, or brace care (for applicable departments). Challenges to this position are delivery of patient care complicated by new techniques, paperwork, changing department and hospital policies, increased information available on each patient, and fluctuations in staffing. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standard. The incumbent uses professionalism and diplomacy when interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, physician office staff, and other health‑care providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical and financial information in person or via telephone interviews. This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including third‑party reimbursement requirements. Technical Responsibilities (Casting, Splinting and Mobility Aids) Apply appropriate casts/splints per physician or practitioner direction using appropriate materials with the body in the appropriate position. Fit casts, splints, and braces to ensure maximum comfort and avoid unnecessary pressures. Trim, split, and remove casts as required. Adjust braces to physician specification. Perform documentation and provide patient education related to cast, splint, or brace care. Provide cast care and brace instructions. Fit and instruct on crutches and other mobilization aids. Prepare, stock, and clean exam rooms per MA requirements. Stock exam rooms, inventory specialty items and initiate reorder of supplies as needed. Maintain tools and equipment. Set up fluoroscopy machine for provider use. Contact vendors about brace orders. Coordinate with patients to assist in completing workups. Complete forms prior to physician review. Assistance in Operating Room, Inpatient Units, and Emergency Room Assist physician with application of splints, casts and braces as needed. Modify or split casts as needed. Instruct patients on cast care, brace/splint application and care. Provide patient care as required. Minimum Qualifications Education: Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Experience: Multi‑physician office practice experience highly preferred. License(s): Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant; application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (certain departments excluded). Certification(s): Current AHA BLS required within 90 days. Some positions may require DOT and Non‑DOT drug testing certifications at time of hire. Ability to obtain and maintain at time of hire one of the following certifications: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Allied Health Association (AAH) National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) State of Nevada EMT certification (basic, advanced, paramedic) Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment. #J-18808-Ljbffr Renown Health
