Retail Banking Description Universal Banker FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary: The Universal Banker is responsible for providing prompt, accurate, and courteous service to customers while processing teller transactions, opening and maintaining deposit accounts, promoting bank products and services, and ensuring compliance with bank policies, procedures, and applicable banking regulations. This position serves as a key point of contact for customers and supports the bank's commitment to relationship-based service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Greet customers in a professional, friendly, and helpful manner and provide excellent customer service in person, by phone, and through the drive-through as applicable. Process routine teller transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, loan payments, transfers, cashier's checks, money orders, and other customer requests. Accurately count, receive, and disburse cash and negotiable instruments while maintaining assigned cash drawer limits. Balance teller drawer daily and assist with vault, ATM, night depository, and cash shipment duties as assigned. Open, close, and maintain customer deposit accounts, including checking, savings, certificate of deposits, & safe deposit boxes.
Obtain and verify required customer identification and account documentation, including signature cards, ownership information, beneficiary information, and documentation required under the Customer Identification Program. Explain account features, fees, disclosures, online banking services, debit cards, and other bank products and services to customers. Assist customers with debit card requests, address changes, account inquiries, and check orders. Identify customer needs and make appropriate referrals or recommendations for bank products and services. Maintain confidentiality of customer information and protect bank records, cash, negotiable instruments, and customer data. Follow all bank policies and procedures, including security procedures, dual control requirements, cash handling standards, and customer privacy requirements. Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, OFAC, Customer Identification Program, funds availability, and other regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate records and complete required forms, reports, logs, and documentation in a timely manner. Identify and report potential fraud, suspicious activity, elder financial exploitation, counterfeit items, or unusual transactions to the BSA Officer, according to bank procedures. Perform general branch duties and other related responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. Accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to handle cash and confidential information responsibly. Ability to learn and explain bank products, services, policies, and procedures. Basic math, computer, keyboarding, and data entry skills. Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and perform effectively in a fast-paced branch environment. Ability to work cooperatively with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and other departments. Professional appearance, dependability, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical conduct. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous cash handling, customer service, banking, retail, or office experience preferred. Previous new accounts or financial services experience preferred, but not required. Must be able to successfully complete required background checks in accordance with bank policy. Must complete required bank training, including compliance, security, privacy, Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, and product training. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while serving customers and performing teller or account-opening duties. Ability to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, calculator, scanner, copier, currency counter, and other standard office or banking equipment. Ability to communicate clearly with customers and employees in person, by phone, and through electronic communication. Ability to read, review, and interpret documents, computer screens, forms, disclosures, customer identification, checks, and transaction records. Ability to regularly handle cash, coins, checks, documents, and office equipment. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items such as cash drawers, coin bags, files, supplies, and boxes weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, stoop, or kneel occasionally to access files, supplies, equipment, or safe deposit boxes. Ability to move within the branch and between work areas as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Work Environment This position is performed primarily in a professional branch office environment. The employee may work at a teller line, new account desk, drive-through station, vault area, or other branch location. The position may require occasional Saturday, extended-hour, or rotating schedule work depending on branch needs.
