We are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer – Battery based in San Francisco, CA who will provide end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for the battery systems that power OURA’s new and sustaining products. This includes battery cell development and qualification, assembly automation development and line bring-up, cell-to-pack integration into OURA’s ring form factors, new supplier bring up, and process technology R&D. This is a hybrid role, the candidate should be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to come into the San Francisco office 2-3 days per week.What you will do: Define best-in-class battery cell, assembly, and integration processes to meet all OURA design, safety, and operational requirementsPartner with Battery/Electrical Engineers, Quality Engineers, Material Engineers, and Product Designers to optimize cell design and manufacturing processes for energy density, cost, cosmetics, and reliabilityIdentify, research, develop, and qualify battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment manufacturers in support of OURA’s hardware development goalsLead new battery assembly line and automation bring-up — from equipment specification and buy-off through installation qualification and production rampDrive suppliers globally to establish and optimize battery cell fabrication, assembly, and pack-integration processes, ensuring best-in-class quality & resolving production issuesUse data to drive process decisions and influence product and industrial design, including cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances and specificationsRequirementsWe would love to have you on our team if you have:3+ years of direct experience working in a battery or electromechanical manufacturing environment as a Supplier Development Engineer, Supply Base Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Cell/Battery Process Engineer, Supplier Industrialization Engineer or equivalent roleExperience with lithium-ion / lithium-polymer cell design, fabrication, and/or battery pack assembly and integrationExperience working with global suppliers to establish & qualify manufacturing processes from NPI to Mass ProductionExperience bringing up and qualifying automated battery assembly lines and manufacturing equipmentAbility to analyze failure modes and identify process or design root causesFamiliarity with battery safety and regulatory standards (e.g. UN38.3, IEC 62133, UL 1642/2054) a plusExcellent critical thinking and problem solving skillsEffectively communicate challenges to leadership and cross-functional partnersAbility to travel internationally, up to 15% of the timeBenefits At Oura, we care about you and your well-being. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions.
