HistotechnicianApex Skin is a physician-led and rapidly growing dermatology practice committed to delivering exceptional patient experiences. We are seeking a talented and motivated Histotechnician to support our Mohs surgery team at our Canton A office. This role is responsible for the technical preparation of tissue specimens, including accessioning, processing, cutting, staining, and preparing frozen sections for Mohs surgery. The position also involves operating and maintaining histology equipment, preparing reagents, performing quality control procedures, and maintaining a safe, clean laboratory environment in accordance with OSHA and CLIA standards.The ideal candidate is ASCP certified with strong histology and frozen-section experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in a fast-paced surgical environment. Experience in Mohs or surgical histology is preferred, along with strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.This is a full-time, hourly position and is located at our Canton A location.Schedule:Full-time, Monday through Friday [40 hours per week]Daytime clinical hours with occasional variations based on provider or patient needs.Essential Functions:Performs technical duties related to production of histology pathological slidesReceives and accessions of tissue, cytology specimens and prepares specimens for storage, preservation, identification, and labelingCuts and stains thin sections according to established procedures for routine and special stainsAssists with cutting and staining of tissues for frozen sectionsDisposes stains and cleans glass containers and petri dishesMaintains equipment, instruments, and cleanliness of working area, and maintains a safe, clean work environment including proper labeling and storage of chemicals and specimens (and disposal of same)Research, troubleshoots, and resolves histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratoryPrepares frozen tissues on routine Mohs surgery specimensPrepares reagent, solution, and stain as needed according to specific instructions and labelsOperates and maintains equipment within the scope of training. Uses defined scheduled and written instructions to perform quality control checks and preventive maintenanceRecords daily temperatures of cryostatMaintains and applies in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships to resolve technical and mechanical problemsMaintains log for patient identification systemEnsures a safe environment in the lab according to OSHA standards ( i.e. changing fume hood filters, safety glasses, gloves)Performs Quality Control proceduresMaintains and updates OSHA and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) recordsPerforms related clinical duties, as requiredQualifications:ASCP Certification requiredAssociates degree in Biology, Chemistry, Histology or related field requiredCurrent and valid CPR certification requiredExperience with processing frozen sections and highly skilled grossing preferredAt least one year of surgical or Mohs experience preferredAmerican Society for Mohs Histotechnology membership preferredStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to multitask, stay organized, and manage time effectivelyProficiency in basic computer software, medical terminology, and EMR documentationPhysical Requirements & Work Environment:Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sittingFrequent use of hands and fingers for typing, instrument preparation, and documentationAbility to speak and hear clearly when interacting with patients and team membersVisual acuity sufficient to read medical documentation, EMR screens, and clinical notesAbility to occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds (clinical materials, supplies, or files)Work is performed in a professional clinical office environment with regular patient interaction and collaboration with providers and clinical staffMay encounter urgent or time-sensitive patient situations requiring composure and sound judgmentRequired to adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, and Apex Skin privacy and safety standardsExposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, toxic substances, and sharp instrumentsApex Skin Culture: Apex Skin fosters a collaborative, patient-first environment built on compassion, clinical excellence, and teamwork.
