Job Description

The Quality Control Lead oversees quality activities on the manufacturing floor while performing analytical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. This role serves as the primary quality representative supporting production operations, enforcing quality standards, investigating quality issues, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring adherence to established procedures. It is a highly visible position suited to someone confident, outspoken, and comfortable holding production teams accountable to quality expectations, with the opportunity to help build the quality organization from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate all quality control activities on the production and manufacturing floor.
• Conduct analytical testing of raw materials, liquids, fluids, in-process samples, and finished products using appropriate laboratory techniques.
• Perform pH testing, viscometer testing, and moisture analysis to verify product quality and consistency.
• Review, interpret, and document quality data accurately using Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Serve as the primary quality representative supporting production operations and acting as the main point of contact for quality-related matters.
• Enforce quality standards and ensure production personnel adhere to established procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) where applicable.
• Identify, investigate, and document quality issues, nonconformances, and deviations on the production floor.
• Lead or participate in Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities to resolve quality problems and prevent recurrence.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing product quality, process efficiency, and overall quality systems.
• Influence production processes and quality systems by providing feedback, recommendations, and guidance to cross-functional teams.
• Challenge production personnel when necessary to maintain quality standards and ensure compliance with procedures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional leadership and participate in customer interactions related to quality topics.
• Maintain organized records of testing, inspections, and quality activities in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Ensure quality inspection activities are performed consistently and in alignment with company procedures.
• Monitor daily production needs and adjust quality control priorities and activities accordingly.
• Walk the production floor regularly to observe operations, identify potential quality risks, and verify adherence to standards.
• Support future expansion of the quality organization, including integration of Quality Control Technicians as the team grows.
• Travel to warehouse facilities and customer sites as needed to support quality oversight and customer requirements.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail, accountability, and independent decision-making in day-to-day quality decisions.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of Quality Control experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience working with raw materials, liquids, and fluids in a manufacturing or laboratory setting.
• Experience conducting analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
• Experience reviewing, analyzing, and documenting quality data accurately.
• Direct experience with CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) processes.
• Direct experience with continuous improvement activities related to quality or production processes.
• Knowledge of laboratory operations and quality inspection practices.
• Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Proficiency using Microsoft Excel for data entry, analysis, and reporting.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Word for documentation and report preparation.
• Ability to enforce quality standards and hold production teams accountable to procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and accountability in all quality-related tasks.
• Ability to think independently, make sound decisions, and challenge production personnel when necessary.
• Comfort working primarily on a production floor in a non-cleanroom, non-temperature-controlled environment.
• Comfort walking the production floor throughout the day and working at heights as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• GMP knowledge preferred and beneficial for overseeing production quality.
• GLP knowledge preferred for managing analytical testing and laboratory practices.
• Familiarity with GDP (Good Documentation Practices) for accurate and compliant recordkeeping.
• Experience with analytical laboratory techniques such as pH testing, viscometer testing, and moisture analysis.
• Experience with continuous improvement methodologies and quality system enhancements.
• Outspoken and confident communication style with the ability to address issues directly.
• Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills across production and leadership teams.
• Self-motivated and proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality concerns.
• Ability to make independent decisions while maintaining alignment with company procedures and standards.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily on the production floor in a non-cleanroom, non-temperature-controlled environment, where conditions can vary and require comfort with walking the floor throughout the day and working at heights when needed. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, first shift, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with overtime potentially required based on production demands. Daily responsibilities may vary depending on production needs, requiring flexibility and adaptability. The position involves travel to a warehouse facility, currently located approximately 30 minutes away and expected to move to about 10 minutes away in the future, as well as occasional customer visits within roughly 1.5 hours and potential longer-distance trips as business needs dictate. Initial travel will typically be conducted alongside members of the leadership team. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Allentown, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $31.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
