Clinical Preceptor

Oakland Community College is seeking a Clinical Preceptor Instructor to assist with our Sterile Processing Technician Program. This position will be responsible for educating and training students, providing hands-on training during clinical experiences at healthcare facilities. The instructor will work directly with students, demonstrating proper sterile processing techniques and procedure and then observing the student as they perform this task. This position works in a fast paced, multi-cultural, diverse working environment. This position may include day and/or evening hours. This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all of the duties and responsibilities that may be required: Collaborates in the development of new curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; reviews and updates course outlines, textbooks, and syllabus for courses. Maintains regular communication with the lead sterile processing instructor to stay informed on weekly classroom topics, student progress, and areas of difficulty. Uses this information to align clinical instruction with classroom learning, reinforce key concepts, and provide targeted support during clinical sessions. Serves as the primary preceptor for students during their clinical rotations at partner healthcare facilities. Provides immediate, constructive feedback and ensures that all activities in the clinical experiences are performed safely and correctly. Serves as a professional role model, demonstrating best practices in areas such as infection control, instrument handling, documentation and communication with other hospital staff. Helps the student apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Guides the students in achieving specific clinical competencies outlined by the program. Responsible for evaluating the student’s performance on a daily or weekly basis, often completing evaluation forms. Collaborates with the instructor and clinical coordinator to ensure all students are on track to successfully complete the program and pass their certification exam. Acts as a liaison between the educational institution and clinical sites. Performs other related duties, as assigned. Ability to work additional hours, as needed. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively teach and mentor students. Ability to engage collaboratively and professionally with colleagues and students to ensure the successful achievement of student learning outcomes. Experience in actively engaging students to think critically while participating in the learning process. Demonstrate leadership in academic and clinical settings. Ability to work as a team player in a multi-cultural, diverse working environment. A minimum of two to five years of recent, full-time clinical experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in a hospital or similar healthcare environment. Previous experience in a teaching, training, or supervisory role is highly preferred. A current, nationally recognized certification from a reputable organization like the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) is essential. #J-18808-Ljbffr Oakland Community College
