Public Health Nutritionist

Position: Public Health Nutritionist (WIC Program) Bargaining Unit: Local 856 – Health Services Unit Location: San Pablo and Pittsburg, CA (may occasionally travel within Contra Costa County) Public Health Nutritionists plan, direct, and carry out nutrition education programs and provide nutrition services to the public. WIC serves pregnant women, women who have recently been pregnant, infants, and children up to their fifth birthday. WIC’s mission is to provide all women, infants, and children with healthy food and the knowledge and opportunity to make healthy choices in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. We Are Looking For Someone Who Is A clear communicator – responsible for providing individual and group counseling, and delivering nutrition education clearly in writing and verbally to clients. Knowledgeable – provide nutrition education and breastfeeding support to clients. A team player – excellent interpersonal skills and strong ability to work in a team environment. Adaptable – able to adjust to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Typical Responsibilities Providing individual counseling, group counseling, and nutrition education. Developing menu items to be prepared by subcontractors. Conducting café site visits to ensure compliance. Conducting client surveys and other data tools to ensure client needs are being met. Supporting staff and community health professionals with nutrition and health information and referrals. Following federal, state, and county policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license (out‑of‑state license accepted during the application process). Certification required: Valid Certificate as a Registered Dietitian, issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Experience: One (1) year of full‑time (or equivalent) experience performing community‑based nutrition work. Substitution for Experience: Possession of a Master's Degree in nutrition, public health nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
