Associate Conductor

The Greater South Jersey Chorus (GSJC) seeks an Associate Conductor for the 2026–2027 season . Founded in 1992, GSJC is a vibrant community choral organization based in Haddonfield, New Jersey, dedicated to artistic excellence, meaningful collaboration, and the belief that music-making should be both musically fulfilling and deeply human. The organization includes both the Full Chorus and the Chamber Singers, a select ensemble comprising many experienced choral musicians, educators, and dedicated singers from throughout the region.

The Associate Conductor (AC) position is designed for a conductor with strong musicianship,

excellent interpersonal skills, and a desire to gain meaningful experience working with a high-level

community ensemble in a collaborative and supportive environment. The AC will work closely with

the Artistic Director (AD) in rehearsals, auditions, artistic planning, and performances throughout the

season. The AC will share responsibilities for Chamber Singers and work collaboratively with the AD

to maintain the ensemble’s strong musical culture and sense of community. GSJC values artistic excellence, collaboration, curiosity, and the belief that community music-making can be both serious and joyful. We seek a conductor who is committed to high musical standards while fostering a positive and supportive rehearsal environment.

Responsibilities include:

--Assisting with weekly rehearsals of both the Full Chorus and Chamber Singers

--Leading warm-ups, sectionals, and portions of rehearsals as appropriate

--Collaborating with the Artistic Director on repertoire selection and musical preparation

--Participating in singer auditions and ensemble placement

--Conducting selected repertoire during performances throughout the season

--Creating rehearsal aids as needed

--Serving as a supportive and visible musical presence within the organization

The ideal candidate will:

--Demonstrate strong conducting and rehearsal skills

--Be an excellent communicator and collaborative musician

--Have experience singing in choral ensembles

--Be open to mentorship, collaboration, and continued artistic growth

--Rehearsals are held Monday evenings, 6:00-9:30 PM, in Haddonfield, NJ. The September-May season; includes additional dress rehearsals and five major performances.

Compensation:

The stipend is $7,000 for the season.
