Why Infinium
Infinium is reimagining how the world powers, moves, and computes. With Infinium Energy™, we transform waste carbon into ultra-low carbon eFuels that decarbonize aviation, industry, and transport. Through Infinium Edge™, we deliver next-generation thermal infrastructure for data centers—unlocking extreme compute performance by removing heat as a constraint. Grounded in deep chemistry and energy systems expertise, Infinium turns carbon and heat from limits into opportunity.
As we scale advanced energy infrastructure and next-generation data center facilities, we’re looking for a Director of Insurance to design and lead the risk transfer strategy that protects our people, our projects, and our operations.
The Role
The Director of Insurance is responsible for designing, procuring, and managing Infinium’s global insurance and risk transfer program across a complex, multi-line risk portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will serve as the primary strategic advisor to executive leadership on enterprise risk financing, insurance program structure, and loss control—ensuring the company is appropriately protected against operational, financial, and reputational risk while optimizing total cost of risk.
What You’ll Do
Insurance Program Strategy & Placement
- Design, negotiate, and manage the company’s annual insurance renewal strategy across all lines, including:
◦ Commercial General Liability (CGL)
◦ Excess / Umbrella Liability
◦ Commercial Auto Liability & Physical Damage
◦ Workers’ Compensation & Employers’ Liability
◦ Builder’s Risk / Construction-related coverages (OCIP/CCIP, contractor’s pollution, etc.)
◦ All-Risk Property (including business interruption / time element)
◦ Environmental / Pollution Liability
◦ Professional Liability / Errors & Omissions
◦ Management Liability Lines
◦ Data Center / Technology & Cyber-related property and liability exposures
◦ Catastrophic Loss programs (named windstorm, earthquake, flood, and other CAT-modeled perils)
- Lead broker and carrier selection, RFP processes, and competitive bid strategy.
- Analyze and negotiate policy terms, conditions, exclusions, sublimits, and pricing to ensure optimal coverage at competitive cost.
- Evaluate and recommend retention levels, deductibles, self-insured retentions (SIRs), and captive insurance strategies.
- Place surety bonds required in connection with business operations.
Risk Assessment & Loss Control
- Partner with Operations, EHS, Construction/Project Management, and Facilities teams to identify emerging and evolving exposures (e.g., new construction projects, new data center sites, chemical process changes).
- Conduct or coordinate exposure, hazard, and vulnerability assessments.
- Develop and implement loss prevention and mitigation programs in coordination with EHS and Legal.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks (e.g., PFAS, climate risk, cyber-physical convergence in data centers) that may impact coverage needs.
Claims Management
- Oversee claims administration across all lines, ensuring timely reporting, reserve accuracy, and appropriate reserve challenges.
- Track claims trends and loss experience to inform renewal strategy and underwriting negotiations.
- Lead post-loss reviews for significant claims and catastrophic events.
Budget & Financial Management
- Own the enterprise insurance budget, forecasting premium costs, and total cost of risk (TCOR) reporting to executive leadership.
- Allocate insurance costs across business units / subsidiaries as applicable.
- Evaluate alternative risk transfer mechanisms (captives, parametric insurance, structured programs) to manage volatility, particularly for catastrophic and environmental exposures.
Compliance & Contract Support
- Review insurance requirements in customer, vendor, construction, and subcontractor contracts; ensure certificates of insurance (COIs) and additional insured requirements are met.
- Ensure compliance with state/federal regulatory requirements for workers’ compensation and auto coverage across all operating jurisdictions.
- Support M&A due diligence by evaluating insurance implications of acquisitions or divestitures.
- Maintain relationships with regulators, auditors, and rating agencies as needed.
Stakeholder Management
- Serve as primary liaison with insurance brokers, carriers, underwriters, and risk consultants.
- Present insurance program strategy, renewal results, and risk exposure updates to senior leadership, Audit Committee, and/or Board of Directors.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, EHS, Construction, IT/Data Center Operations, and Manufacturing leadership.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree a plus).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate risk management or insurance brokerage, with direct responsibility for placing and managing complex, multi-line commercial insurance programs.
- Demonstrated experience with property/casualty lines including CGL, excess/umbrella, auto, and workers’ compensation.
- Experience managing property and casualty risk within at least two of the following high-hazard sectors: construction, chemical manufacturing, data center/critical infrastructure, or environmental-exposed operations.
- Experience negotiating with carriers and brokers on complex, layered/excess programs.
- Working knowledge of self-insurance, captive structures, and alternative risk transfer mechanisms.
- Strong financial acumen.
What Will Set You Apart
- Professional designations such as ARM (Associate in Risk Management), CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), CRM, or RIMS-CRMP.
- Experience in chemical or industrial manufacturing risk environments, including process safety and product liability exposures.
- Experience with wrap-up programs (OCIP/CCIP) for large construction projects.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent negotiation and vendor/broker management skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret actuarial data, loss runs, and CAT models.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership.
- High attention to detail with strong contract review capability.
- Ability to manage multiple, concurrent renewal cycles and competing priorities across diverse business units.
- Strategic thinker who can balance risk appetite with cost efficiency.
Work Environment
Primarily office-based in Sacramento, California, with occasional travel to operating sites—construction projects, manufacturing facilities, and data centers—for risk assessments and stakeholder meetings, depending on business needs.
