Junior Accountant

Job Details Job Location: NJ - Fairfield, NJ 07004 Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 Salary Primary Purpose: The Junior Accountant supports the accounting and finance function by maintaining accurate financial records, processing routine transactions, assisting with reconciliations, and supporting month-end close activities. This role is ideal for an early-career accounting professional who is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to develop strong technical accounting skills in a fast-paced business environment. Responsibilities Assist with day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and account reconciliations. Prepare, enter, and review journal entries and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness. Process vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and customer payments in accordance with company procedures. Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes by preparing schedules, reports, and account reconciliations. Maintain accurate and organized financial records, files, and documentation for internal review and audit support. Assist with bank reconciliations and balance sheet accounts, including investigating discrepancies or reconciling items. Prepare basic financial reports, spreadsheets, and analysis as requested by accounting leadership. Assist various accounting and finance groups, including general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost accounting and treasury, with daily operations and reporting Direct and help with implementation of various technology projects and platforms Respond professionally to internal and external accounting inquiries, including vendor and department questions. Follow established accounting policies, internal controls, and confidentiality requirements. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve accuracy. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications, Education, Qualities and Skills Required Associate degree or above in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred. 1-3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or internship experience preferred. CPA a plus Basic understanding of accounting principles, debits and credits, reconciliations, and financial documentation. Experience with Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems preferred. Understanding of technology and workflows. Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity and discretion. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to follow established procedures and ask questions when clarification is needed. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Analytical mindset with the ability to identify discrepancies and investigate basic accounting issues. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Supervisory Responsibility No direct supervision required. Work Environment Typical office working environment which includes a workstation equipped with a computer and other office supplies necessary for daily tasks. Typically climate-controlled to provide a comfortable working temperature year-round. Lighting is usually a mix of natural and artificial sources to ensure sufficient lamination. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time salaried position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday. Expectations of 45 hours per week, to be worked during normal business hours. Physical Requirements Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or workstation. Typing: Frequent use of hands to type on a keyboard and operate a computer mouse. Visual Requirements: Extended periods of viewing a computer screen and reading printed or digital documents. Mobility: Occasional walking or standing, including moving between different areas of the office. Manual Dexterity: The ability to handle office equipment, such as phones, printers, and copiers, and to file documents. Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with colleagues, clients, and vendors. Lifting: Occasionally lifting and carrying light objects, typically up to 20 pounds, such as files, documents, or office supplies. Reaching and Bending: Reaching above shoulder height and bending to access files and office supplies. Hearing: Adequate hearing ability to participate in meetings and teleconferences. Compensation and Benefits The budgeted salary range for this position is $60,000-$80,000, with a 10% annual bonus potential.
