Job Description
This 11-month position supports Health at the Barnes Center at The Arch. Specifically, individuals in this position maintain all processes related to Medical Records. Individuals in this position will review, verify, and digitally file medical records submitted by students, including but not limited to test results, health histories, and immunization records. Individuals will appropriately and accurately verify and process requests for release of patient information according to FERPA guidelines. Individuals in this position will respond to calls or messages directed toward Medical Records, which may include student inquiries, questions from parents, and questions from outside facilities. Individuals will follow up on referrals for students who are referred by a provider for specialty care in the community. Individuals will, at times, assist in covering the check-in process in Health, collecting insurance information, instructing students on the proper forms to fill out, and covering incoming phone calls as needed. - High school diploma with experience in medical records management and medical billing.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to handle sensitive, confidential information.
- Best in class customer service skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficient with current office technologies.
- Working knowledge of medical records and referral process.
- Able to work with confidential information and maintain confidentiality.
- Related office experience desired.
- Enter immunization and other health information into the student's electronic health record, and scan health history forms/immunization records into the electronic health record.
- Release student treatment records when requested, following applicable FERPA guidelines.
- Provide front-facing customer service for students seeking support from Medical Records, assisting parents/students with document submission and questions, etc.
- Assist the Referral Coordinator in following up on referrals that the provider has made into the community to specialty offices. Communicate appointment information to the student if necessary, while also keeping the provider apprised if the student does not keep the referral appointment. Document all pertinent information in the referral form.
- Answer incoming phone calls, schedule appointments, and/or take messages for clinical staff. Work with students at the time of appointment and provide them with necessary paperwork for completion. Enter billable insurance information, and scan billing agreements and insurance cards into the student's account.
