Recreation Specialist (Part - Time)

Conducts one or more specific recreation or community service programs, typically serving as a direct service provider. Under direction, administers, coordinates, develops, promotes, implements and evaluates programs and activities for youth, adults, and families, as directed. This position may require the individual to supervise part time staff, volunteers, and city or school facilities where people gather for recreational activities. Assists in the maintenance of recreational and park sites. Performs related work as required. Coordination and supervision of daily drop-in activities at City and school facilities; Plan and implement various recreation and sports programs and special events for all age groups; Prepare and coordinate program publicity, including press releases, flyers, pamphlets, and brochures; Prepare work plans and measure program effectiveness related to the community's target issues; Supervision of daily drop-in activities at City and school facilities; Facility and equipment support such as set-ups, preparing sports fields, record keeping, and basic maintenance; Administer basic first aid. Plans and implements various recreation programs for all age groups; prepares and coordinates program publicity, including press releases, flyers, pamphlets, and brochures; assists in evaluation and makes recommendations on program activities; prepares reports and correspondence; and assists in the coordination of citywide activities. Ensures the safety of the public and staff at all times by monitoring and instructing on the safe use of program facilities, equipment, and supplies; maintains a safe, clean, and tidy environment; identifies maintenance and safety problems; performs minor maintenance and coordinates repair; assists in preparing estimates of supplies and equipment; orders, purchases and/or obtains supplies and equipment to maintain an adequate inventory for program needs; sets up and operates a variety of recreational, educational, cleaning, and other equipment related to the program as well as standard office equipment, including computers; and ensures that programs and facilities are in compliance with applicable State, County, and City regulations. Assists in the City's recreational programs; maintains records; prepares documentation of programs; performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, conducting activities for all ages, makes arrangements for rental and use of Recreation facilities; schedules and implements facility preparation; and performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Recreation, community service, or sports activities and programs; Mentoring and being a positive role model for the youth in the community; and basic first aid. Skill to: Plan and implement various recreation and sports programs and special events for all age groups. Ability to: Understand that residents and visitors are customers and that customer service is a top priority; maintain enthusiasm and willingness to learn; plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary. Example combinations include: Graduation from high school or equivalent and a minimum of two years paid part-time experience as a leader in a recreational activity or as an assistant in a variety of recreation programs. Two years of college coursework may be substituted for one year of experience. Special Requirements Must be at least 18 years old.
