The Work You Will Do: This is a Senior Attorney position in our District 5 Chief Counsel's office. Responsible for providing legal counsel and advice to District 5 staff concerning the negotiation, drafting, and review of contracts, funding agreements, joint project agreements, construction agreements, maintenance agreements, intergovernmental agreements, toll operation agreements, permits, and agreements concerning District 5 right-of-way and real property interests, consistent with the direction and advice provided by the District 5 Chief Counsel and the General Counsel. Responsible for providing legal representation in all phases of eminent domain proceedings, including research, preparation of pleadings, discovery, preparation of witnesses, hearings, settlement negotiations, and trial, as assigned. Responsible for preparing real estate conveyance documents. Responsible for providing legal representation in defense of the Department in claims of inverse condemnation, as assigned. Responsible for thoroughly researching all state and federal statutes, court cases, rules, and regulations affecting the operations of District 5. Responsible for advising the District 5 program area offices the attorney is assigned to work with regarding legal powers and duties, how the law affects operations, and the implementation of policies and rules. Responsible for providing support to Department attorneys representing the Department in claims and litigation against and by the Department, as assigned. Responsible for assisting with public records requests, information requests, and subpoenas, as assigned.

Where You Will Work: You are a part of the Office of the General Counsel statewide team and will work in our District 5 Chief Counsel's office located at 719 South Woodland Boulevard, DeLand, Florida 32720.

Annual Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: Litigation and civil rules of procedure and practice and Government In the Sunshine Law. The principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communications. Ability to: Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Utilize problem solving techniques. Work independently. Plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Use word processing, graphic presentation software, database, and mainframe applications. Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements: Must be a member of The Florida Bar.

Other Job-Related Requirements: This position requires overnight travel. This position requires a Level 1 Background Check.
