Staff Service Mechanical Engineer

Location: OT325: NSP - BLOOMFIELD, CT 212 WEST NEWBERRY RD, BLOOMFIELD, CT, 06002 USA Role Overview We are seeking a hands‑on Staff Mechanical Engineer to support NAA field service and maintenance personnel in elevator repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Responsibilities Diagnose complex mechanical and electromechanical issues in elevator systems, including rotating equipment, bearings, sheaves, traction machines, and electric motors. Develop repair solutions and improvements to reliability of elevator systems. Conduct on‑site surveying, field pilot testing, and remote troubleshooting in elevator hoistway and machine rooms. Organize, maintain, and create Spare Parts Leaflets (SPLs) and Technical Information Publications (TIPs). Develop engineering solutions to replace obsolete components and respond to new needs from sketches, concepts, and verbal instructions. Provide root‑cause failure analysis (RRCA) for mechanical and electromechanical failures. Manage moderately sized and complex projects, deliver on schedule and cost‑savings targets, and create product upgrade packages. Optimize department processes by collecting data related to engineering tasks, time allocation, and value delivered. Support engineering requests from OSC departments (supply chain, customer service, modernization, assembly, and machine shop). Create work instructions, resolve part quality issues, and recommend stocking for new and existing parts. Produce engineering drawings, tools, parts, and technical documents for field repair, installation, and maintenance of Otis and competitor equipment. Participate in change notice reviews with Otis New Equipment division and provide training to peers, mechanics, and field engineers. Qualifications B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. 15+ years of engineering experience. 5+ years of hands‑on rotating equipment and motor troubleshooting, elevator preferred. Strong background in bearings, power transmission, and motors. Proficiency in performing engineering hand calculations (torque, HP, bearing life, sheave/belt forces, fits, tolerances). Track record of leading technical projects from concept to sales release. Ability to prepare and present reports to senior leadership. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Self‑motivated, results‑driven, and detail oriented. Team player with ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Knowledge of design/drafting practices, G.D.T., materials, and processes. 5‑10% travel required. Preferred Qualifications Experience in repair and manufacturing industry. Knowledge of elevator mechanical components, hydraulic and traction machines. Proficiency in PTC Creo and AutoCAD.
