Position Responsibilities:

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting healthcare and government program engagements. In this position, you will be responsible for reviewing financial information provided by healthcare organizations, performing reimbursement calculations, conducting audits, and assessing compliance with Medicaid and other relevant government program requirements. You will take ownership of all phases in the audit process, prepare detailed and clear documentation, and apply various accounting, regulatory, and professional standards throughout your work.

• Review Medicaid provider cost reports and associated financial documentation for accuracy and adherence to program requirements.
• Analyze healthcare provider financial data to ensure completeness, reasonableness, and regulatory compliance.
• Perform reimbursement calculations consistent with Medicaid and other government program guidelines.
• Conduct desk reviews and, as necessary, participate in on-site audits of providers.
• Manage all stages of assigned audits – from initial planning and risk assessment through fieldwork, findings development, and final reporting.
• Research and assess billing and reimbursement compliance in accordance with Medicaid, federal, state, and other government program rules and standards.
• Interpret and apply relevant federal and state healthcare policies, regulations, and guidance before and during each audit engagement.
• Prepare audit workpapers and documentation summarizing procedures, scope, conclusions, and findings in alignment with professional and program standards.
• Maintain detailed and accurate electronic records of all work performed.
• Draft well-supported written documentation of professional judgments, audit findings, and recommendations.
• Gather, organize, analyze, and report both financial and operational information in a timely and precise manner.
• Identify and implement opportunities for improving audit processes, documentation methods, and analytical techniques.
• Safeguard the confidentiality and security of protected health information and other sensitive data throughout the engagement.
• Juggle multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned to support engagement and organizational success.

Essential Skills, Experience

The ideal candidate for this position will have a solid foundation in accounting and strong analytical skills, along with the ability to manage deadlines and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Key skills and background include:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills; able to document findings and interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated skill in reviewing, interpreting, and applying statutory, regulatory, and policy requirements.
• Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and accuracy in all work performed.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, for data analysis and reporting.
• Capacity to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities effectively and efficiently.
• Ability to travel as needed based on client and business requirements.
• Ability to evaluate financial records, identify discrepancies and compliance risk, and perform precise reimbursement calculations.
• Understanding of or the ability to learn audit planning, fieldwork, documentation, and reporting processes.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate within an engagement team.
• Commitment to maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and high accuracy at all times.
• Adaptability and flexibility to evolving client expectations and project deadlines.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Accounting or related field (preferred).
• Working towards or holding a CPA license (preferred).
• Prior internship or professional experience in accounting, auditing, healthcare reimbursement, or related areas is an asset.
• Practical experience in healthcare auditing, provider cost report reviews, or government program reimbursement analysis is a plus.
• Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, or other government healthcare program requirements, and knowledge of professional standards such as AICPA standards, is beneficial.
