Organization Design Consultant (6-9 Month Contract) – Elizabeth 2.0 Transformation Program

APM Terminals Elizabeth is seeking a hands-on Organization Design Consultant to support the Elizabeth 2.0 transformation program. Reporting directly to the Head of People Function, you will help shape the future organization by developing operating models, organizational structures, governance frameworks, workforce transition plans, and capability development strategies.

This is a practical delivery-focused role for an experienced organization design practitioner who can facilitate workshops, conduct analysis, build high-quality organizational design deliverables, and translate decisions into actionable implementation plans. You will work closely with leaders across Operations, Engineering, Finance, Labor Relations, HR, and Transformation teams to ensure the organization is prepared to support future business requirements, automation, technology adoption, and growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with business leaders to translate strategic objectives, operational changes, and transformation priorities into organization design solutions.
• Lead organizational assessments, design workshops, structure development activities, and implementation planning across selected functions.
• Develop current-state and future-state organizational structures aligned to business requirements, workforce needs, and operating model objectives.
• Facilitate workshops and working sessions to define organizational accountabilities, governance frameworks, decision rights, and ways of working.
• Create and maintain organization design deliverables including organization charts, role charters, governance models, accountability frameworks, RACI documentation, and decision-rights matrices.
• Conduct workforce and capability assessments to identify critical roles, future skill requirements, organizational impacts, and talent needs.
• Support workforce transition planning, implementation roadmaps, readiness activities, and phased organizational transition plans.
• Prepare executive presentations, recommendations, discussion papers, and Steering Committee materials while tracking actions, risks, decisions, and dependencies.

What We Are Looking For

• Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
• 5-10+ years of experience in Organization Design, Organizational Effectiveness, Workforce Transformation, Operating Model Design, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience supporting complex transformation, restructuring, operating model, or workforce change initiatives.
• Strong expertise in organizational design methodologies, governance structures, operating models, workforce analysis, and capability assessments.
• Proven workshop facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, PowerPoint, Excel, and business writing capabilities.
• Experience within logistics, transportation, manufacturing, industrial operations, infrastructure, or port environments is preferred.
• Familiarity with automation, digital transformation, workforce transformation programs, Lean, Continuous Improvement, ABS, or similar operational excellence methodologies is advantageous.
• Experience working in unionized environments is preferred.
• Hands-on, pragmatic, adaptable, collaborative, and execution-focused with the ability to independently drive deliverables through implementation.

Salary: $80 - $150 per hour (6-9 month contract)
Location: Elizabeth, NJ (5 days a week in Office)
