Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is currently recruiting for Deputy Sheriff - Law Enforcement Criminal Court Security. This position is located at any of the Pinellas County Courthouses. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, certified by the Florida (CJSTC) Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in compliance with Chapter 943 F.S.S., and meet the minimum vision requirement of 20/30 corrected visual acuity. Certified Law Enforcement Experience Pay 1 year = $67,619.55 2 years = $68,295.55 3 years = $69,149.39 4 years = $70,013.84 5+ years = $71,064.03 Signing Bonus and Relocation Stipend With three (3) or more years Certified Law Enforcement experience: $5,000 signing bonus plus relocation stipend to Pinellas County. From out-of-state: $3,000 relocation stipend. From Manatee, Hillsborough, Pasco or Hernando Counties: $500 relocation stipend. From all other Florida locations: $1,500 relocation stipend. With less than three (3) years Certified Law Enforcement experience: $3,000 signing bonus . First‑time newly employed Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Florida may be eligible for an additional bonus up to $5,000 through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity while funding is available. A Certified Deputy must perform essential physical tasks at a set standard. Candidates must meet the listed standards before being offered employment. Under the general direction of a Law Enforcement Sergeant, the Deputy performs general law‑enforcement work of average difficulty and responsibility, including preservation and protection of life and property, prevention of crime, maintenance of good public order, enforcement of civil and criminal law, and related duties as assigned. Deputies exercise judgment and initiative in routine duties and emergency situations. Positions require rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays. Deputies may be called to perform duties on other shifts or at times directed to support efficient operations. Work is reviewed through observation, inspections, daily reports, and adherence to prescribed methods. Candidates must reside in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Manatee, or Hernando counties. Responsibilities Pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators. Patrol assigned areas of the County to preserve public order, prevent, and discover crimes. Make arrests and testify in prosecution of law violators; conduct preliminary and detailed investigations. Protect crime scenes, gather and preserve evidence, record testimony, coordinate activities on site, and assist detectives. Transport arrested individuals to jail and prepare offense and case reports for court. Serve warrants, capias, court orders and other legal processes; locate and arrest persons wanted on warrants or court orders. Enforce traffic laws, issue summons to violators, report unsafe road conditions, direct traffic flow, and investigate traffic accidents. Work with juveniles, investigate, and refer cases to Juvenile Court. Assist in training personnel. Maintain regular and reliable attendance. Serve as essential staff, required to report to work in emergencies or natural disasters. Participate in recruitment and community relations activities as directed. High School graduation or equivalent diploma from an accredited institution recognized by DOE or licensed as a degree‑granting institution. Completion of law‑enforcement training required by the State of Florida. Meet Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission requirements. Possess a valid Florida Driver's License (minimum Class E). Consideration for this position requires a credit check. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of modern law‑enforcement principles and practices. Understanding of the importance of law‑enforcement work, local geography, and roadway system. Familiarity with General Orders and standard operating procedures. Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. Knowledge of first aid practices. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to cope with stressful situations and perform calmly under stress. Ability to work closely with others as a team. Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise and objective written and oral reports. Ability to enforce law with firmness, tact and impartiality, and to deal courteously with the public. Ability to recognize emotional and physical reactions of victims and perpetrators. Ability to render physical assistance. Skill in calmly and systematically eliciting critical information from injured or highly emotional individuals. Ability to maintain physical conditioning to subdue, restrain, and apprehend law violators. Ability to meet requirements of periodic in‑service training in high liability areas (firearms, defensive tactics, A.S.P., tactical driving). Ability to adhere to standards and principles of honesty and integrity. Ability to comply with the Drug‑Free Workplace Act. Physical Abilities Requires satisfactory medical standards as per FDLE form CJSTC 75A and agency medical clearance. Visual acuity of 20/30 vision standard in each eye; if corrective lenses are required, uncorrected vision no worse than 20/100. Hearing acuity: single hearing levels not to exceed 25 decibels at 500, 1000, 2000 Hz and not to exceed 30 decibels at 3000 Hz. Ability to lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist. Ability to sit, stand and walk up to 12 hours per day. Ability to perceive sounds at normal voice range and radio/sirens. Ability to operate authorized revolver or semi‑automatic handgun from various positions with accuracy. Ability to drive a motor vehicle safely and efficiently. Ability to use standard vehicle emergency equipment and mirrors for safe operation. Ability to identify colors used in descriptions. Ability to perform all functions without posing a direct threat to health or safety of others.
