Senior Operations Manager

Overview Senior Operations Managers play a crucial role in delivering a superb customer experience. This multi-faceted role combines strategy and execution, overseeing the operations of a functional area within a Fulfillment Center, including people management, process, and meeting customer commitments. You will lead a dynamic team of Operations and Area Managers to achieve operational excellence through coaching, mentoring, employee engagement, and leadership development within the center. As a senior leader, you will oversee a large workforce in a fast-paced, complex facility up to a million square feet. This position represents the face of the organization to thousands of employees and the local community and offers potential for career growth within Amazon’s global footprint. Responsibilities Own and deliver the operational budget for the functional area, including safety, productivity, financial and labor planning, and outbound or inbound operations. Provide strategic long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months) including labor planning, rate forecasting, and peak-season planning. Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize operations and productivity; work on strategic projects with building-wide or network-wide impact; leverage leaders to solicit ideas and address challenges. Network with leaders across the network to share process improvements, drive efficiencies and cost savings. Establish objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience. Set clear goals and expectations for Operations and Area Managers; measure performance, provide feedback, and hold leaders accountable. Mentor and develop leaders and staff. Participate in recruiting to identify and evaluate associates and candidates for promotion and hire. Collaborate with support staff (HR, Finance, Maintenance Engineering, Safety, IT, and other leaders) to secure resources for projects and initiatives. Additional Job Elements Lift and move totes up to 49 pounds Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching; abilities include movements below the waist and above the head Stand/walk for extended periods (up to 10–12 hours) Work in environments with variable noise levels, lighting conditions, and temperature variation Access all areas of the building (ladders, stairs, gangways) safely Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree, or 2+ years of full-time Amazon experience Experience with full staffing lifecycle: interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions, and terminations 7+ years of direct management experience Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean methodologies Preferred Qualifications Master's degree or higher in a relevant field of operations Experience in fast-paced environments, and managing workload during peak times or escalated activity Experience in management and leadership development, organization development, learning and development, group facilitation, and training design Interest in long-term career development via assignments across multiple FCs Track record of leading an operation with at least 100 salaried and hourly staff Ability to develop others into higher levels of leadership Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package may include sign-on payments and RSUs. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
