Painter - 1st Shift

This 1st shift Painter role focuses on preparing and painting large industrial components used in capital equipment and assembly lines. You will work in a dedicated paint department as part of a small, collaborative team, using HVLP spray equipment and paint booths to deliver high-quality finishes. Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of industrial components for painting, including cleaning, sanding, grinding, and masking surfaces to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality.
  • Operate HVLP spray guns and work within paint booths to apply primers, topcoats, and other industrial coatings according to specifications and safety standards.
  • Mix paints, coatings, and related materials to the correct color, viscosity, and consistency, following manufacturer guidelines and job requirements.
  • Use hand and power tools, including sanders and grinders, to perform surface preparation, touch-ups, and finishing work on metal and other materials.
  • Inspect painted parts and assemblies for coverage, color match, finish quality, and defects, and make necessary corrections to meet quality standards.
  • Handle and store paints, solvents, and chemicals safely, following OSHA requirements and internal safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the paint department, including regular cleaning of equipment, tools, and booths.
  • Collaborate with a team of 46 coworkers to coordinate workloads, meet project timelines, and support other departments as needed.
  • Follow production schedules and work orders to ensure components are painted accurately and delivered on time to assembly and other departments.
  • Comply with all safety policies, including the use of required PPE, safe lifting techniques, and proper handling of materials and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members about job status, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials up to 50 pounds as part of daily duties.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience as an automotive or industrial painter.
  • Proven experience using HVLP spray equipment and working in paint booth environments.
  • Hands-on experience with hand and power tools used in painting and finishing, including sanders and grinders.
  • Practical knowledge of industrial paint application, including surface preparation, mixing, and application of primers and topcoats.
  • Ability to mix paints and coatings to correct specifications for color, viscosity, and finish.
  • Comfort working with industrial paints, powders, solvents, and related materials in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team of 46 people in a production environment.
  • Capability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and regularly lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in areas with moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, vibration, and high noise levels while following safety requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to inspect and verify paint quality and finish.
  • Effective two-way communication skills to coordinate tasks and report issues.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with openness to voluntary overtime on Sundays.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience operating industrial machinery is a plus.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with sanders and grinders is preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or capital equipment environment is beneficial.
  • Comfort working in a structured, safety-focused shop environment.
  • A practical, no-nonsense approach to work with a strong sense of ownership and pride in quality.

Work Environment

The facility is located in Fredericktown, OH, approximately 10 minutes north of Mount Vernon, OH, and is custom built to accommodate large capital equipment and assembly lines. The plant is organized into several departments, including Machining, Assembly, Weld/Fabrication, Paint, and Engineering/Design, with each area taking pride in maintaining a clean and safe workspace. The machining department includes Trumpf CNC milling centers and multiple manual mills and lathes, supporting a broad range of production activities. This role operates primarily in the shop and paint areas, where OSHA-compliant personal protective equipment is required. You will be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, and high noise levels. The job is physically demanding and requires regular standing, walking, climbing stairs, and using both hands independently or together, as well as occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. You must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and use close, peripheral, and depth vision with the ability to adjust focus. The schedule is 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with voluntary overtime available on Sundays. Appropriate work attire and PPE are required to meet safety and cleanliness standards in the shop and paint departments.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of FREDERICKTOWN, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $26.00/hr.
