The Performing Arts Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in performing arts disciplines, including theater, drama, music, dance, and/or performance studies for students in grades 6-12. The teacher will cultivate students' artistic expression, creativity, confidence, and technical performance skills while supporting SEED Miami's college-preparatory mission.
The Performing Arts Teacher works collaboratively with colleagues to prepare students for success in college, careers, and the global workforce. The successful candidate recognizes and embraces responsibility for the academic, social, and emotional development of students while building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues to advance the school's mission.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and deliver engaging standards-aligned performing arts instruction for students in grades 6-12.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that promotes artistic growth, creativity, performance skills, and appreciation of the performing arts.
- Design lessons that incorporate a variety of instructional methodologies, performance techniques, and artistic experiences.
- Integrate literacy strategies into performing arts instruction to support student learning across content areas.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Examine student assessment data and performance outcomes to inform instructional decisions and improve student achievement.
- Establish and maintain a classroom and rehearsal environment conducive to learning, creativity, and student success.
- Professionally assess student performance and provide meaningful feedback to support growth and mastery.
- Submit lesson plans and instructional materials as required by assigned administrators.
- Organize, direct, and supervise student performances, productions, showcases, exhibitions, concerts, and other school-based performing arts events.
- Develop opportunities for students to demonstrate artistic skills through performances and community engagement activities.
- Maintain performance spaces, equipment, instruments, costumes, props, and instructional materials.
- Foster student participation in performing arts programs and extracurricular opportunities.
- Promote appreciation for the arts throughout the school community.
- Collaborate with fellow SEED staff regarding student support, curriculum planning, professional development, and assessment design.
- Co-plan and co-teach with Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teachers to ensure the needs of all learners are met.
- Identify students requiring additional support and collaborate with appropriate personnel to provide interventions.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, progress reports, and performance evaluations.
- Provide timely and ongoing communication to students and families regarding academic and artistic progress.
- Contribute to a positive student-adult school culture consistent with the SEED Model of Care.
- Actively build strong relationships with parents and families that foster trust, collaboration, and communication.
- Engage in home visits according to school protocols and expectations.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, performances, and opportunities for involvement.
- Support school initiatives and community partnerships that promote student achievement and engagement.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, workshops, and school-sponsored activities.
- Participate in summer programming, including direct service to incoming and returning SEED students and curriculum development activities.
- Assist in classroom, campus, and building supervision and student discipline in accordance with the school's Model of Care.
- Adhere to all professional and ethical standards outlined in the SEED Miami Staff Manual.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.

- Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts, Theatre, Drama, Music, Dance, Arts Education, or a closely related field.
- Current Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) certification or Statement of Eligibility in an appropriate subject area.
- 2-4 years of successful teaching experience in performing arts or a related discipline.
- Experience directing theatrical productions, concerts, showcases, or other student performances.
- ESOL Endorsement (if applicable).
- Experience working with culturally diverse student populations.
- Experience in a college-preparatory, charter, or boarding school environment.
