JOB SUMMARY

We are hiring an experienced Slitter Operator for a metal processing/manufacturing facility in Fairland, IN.

This position is responsible for setting up and operating slitting equipment used to process metal coils into specific widths based on customer and production requirements. The Slitter Operator will handle machine setup, blade positioning, tension adjustments, coil loading, recoiling, quality inspections, and basic machine maintenance.

We are looking for someone with experience in slitting, coil processing, steel/aluminum processing, roll forming, or similar metal manufacturing equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up and operate industrial slitting machines
• Adjust slitter blades, spacers, tension, speed, and machine settings based on production specifications
• Load metal coils onto the uncoiler using a forklift
• Secure and properly position coils for safe processing
• Guide material through the slitter and onto the recoiler
• Remove and handle finished slit coils
• Perform blade changes and machine setup between production runs
• Inspect finished material for width, burrs, edge quality, and surface condition
• Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and tape measures to verify specifications
• Make machine adjustments when material is outside tolerance
• Monitor production speed, scrap, downtime, and overall machine performance
• Perform basic troubleshooting when machine or material issues occur
• Complete lubrication, alignment checks, blade inspections, and other routine maintenance
• Maintain accurate production and quality records
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures and all plant safety requirements
• Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment as required
• Work with quality, maintenance, production, and material handling teams

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED
• Previous slitter operator or metal processing experience preferred
• Experience working with coils and recoiling equipment preferred
• Ability to perform machine setups and mechanical adjustments
• Comfortable changing and positioning slitter blades
• Experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and tape measures
• Ability to read work orders, production specifications, and technical drawings
• Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting ability
• Forklift experience preferred
• Ability to safely work around high-speed industrial equipment
• Strong attention to detail
• Dependable and safety-conscious
• Ability to work independently and as part of a production team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of material
• Comfortable working around industrial machinery, noise, oil, and varying temperatures

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a hands-on industrial manufacturing position working around metal coils, forklifts, high-speed machinery, oil, noise, and moving equipment.

Required PPE includes:

• Cut-resistant sleeves
• Other facility-required PPE

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The strongest candidate will have previous hands-on experience operating a slitter or other coil-processing equipment and understand how blade setup, spacing, tension, speed, and recoiling affect finished material quality.

Candidates coming from steel mills, aluminum facilities, coil processors, steel service centers, roll-forming operations, or similar metal manufacturing environments may also be a strong fit.
