Maintenance Technician 2nd shift

Position Summary This position works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on complex production equipment and systems (e.g., mechanical, electrical). Evaluate and recommend equipment improvements to improve efficiency, capability, and yield. Perform equipment failure analyses (including preventive and unscheduled maintenance). Troubleshoot and diagnose more complex equipment problems. Prepare technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures. Job Description This position is 2nd shift (M-F 2:45pm-11:15pm) and is 100% onsite at our Southington, CT manufacturing facility. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Work as a team with other technicians. Provide direct support to the production team for maintenance in performing complex troubleshooting and equipment improvements. Specify ongoing maintenance requirements. Act as a technical resource to the maintenance technicians and elevate concerns to supervisor when necessary. Assume technical leadership role by providing guidance and mentoring for less experienced technicians. Responsible for the successful completion of assigned maintenance tasks or process improvements. Integrate state‑of‑the‑art technology with existing equipment to improve the process. Follow up on projects/assignments with minimum supervision. Participate in the maintenance huddles and maintenance improvement discussions as a key team member in respective area of support. Plan, coordinate, install, and perform operational checkouts for equipment and processes in the assigned area of responsibility. Perform maintenance, repair, complex troubleshooting, redesign, and enhancement of mechanical and electrical programs. Research and initiate miscellaneous purchase requisitions for materials, spare parts, equipment, and services. Troubleshoot and assist in repairs of equipment and processes in area of responsibility. Must make accurate and concise decisions or recommendations. Recommend appropriate timing for the situation to supervisors regarding problems and review spare parts, specifications, SOPs, and preventive maintenance for equipment and processes in area of responsibility. Train other plant personnel in specific procedures, methods, and operations regarding processes and equipment as directed. Report evaluated test data in the form of verbal, written, electronic, and formal presentations to supervisors and/or management for further input. Perform due diligence of problem and research potential solutions within existing cGMP, cGDP guidelines, SOPs, and plant policies by cost/effectiveness/ease of operation/clean design. Adhere to and maintain up‑to‑date status on pertinent cGMPs, cGDP, SOPs, and plant policies/rules/training. Serve as technical resource for the plant. Assist in line coverage during unexpected absences of the maintenance mechanics when needed. Perform other related duties as assigned or required. Knowledge & Skills Requires a high level of resourcefulness, self‑starter, ability to work with minimal supervision, overcome obstacles, anticipate and resolve problems, make difficult compliant decisions, and find ways to complete tasks through innovative actions in potentially different areas of the facility. Able to interpret engineering specifications and read engineering drawings. Must have thorough knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical principles and the ability to troubleshoot equipment and/or processes to optimize performance. Strong verbal communication and technical writing ability. Ability to exercise diplomacy in the leadership and direction of other employees. Must be flexible with work schedule, able to work overtime, weekends, and adjust schedule on short notice when needed to support plant operations. Required to become Qualified Fellow Employee (QFE). Candidate must pass the technical skills test. Principles of Operation – Assist others and transfer knowledge on the operation of complex equipment across multiple platforms; develop and amend technical training and troubleshooting guides; actively improve change‑over standards by eliminating waste within the process and sharing best practices with colleagues. Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma required; an associate degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Requires 6–10 years of experience with industrial mechanical, electrical, or similar systems. Welding, pipe fitting, sheet metal work, and/or hydraulic hose fabrication experience preferred. Work Environment The work environment can range from clean room with proper gowning requirements to a production area that is open, potentially noisy, and with moving equipment.
