Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines the award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent from an approved VA school for the year of completion. Current, full and unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C., with current registration if required. Licensure waiver possible for research, academic, or administrative assignments with no direct patient care, or for service in another country where the physician holds a valid license. Revoked or suspended licenses require full restoration (38 U.S.C. § 7402(f)) unless the physician was on the VA roll before 30 Nov 1999 and remains in continuous appointment. Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board‑certification eligibility. Or, one year of post‑medical‑school training (internship or transitional year) followed by two years of independent practice under a full, unrestricted license in the U.S. Or, non‑U.S. residency training followed by at least three years of independent practice in the U.S. with duties related to the position. Residents currently enrolled in an accredited residency program and meeting basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis. Board certification required only for positions supervising medical students or residents, for faculty status with an affiliated medical school, or for specific VHA policy roles. Proficiency in spoken and written English (38 U.S.C. § 7402 (d) and 7407 (d)) for direct patient‑care positions. Preferred: Addiction medicine training with addiction medicine certification. Responsibilities Provide psychiatric care across multiple settings, including inpatient psychiatry units, medical/surgical and emergency units, primary‑care outpatient programs, opioid treatment program, and mental‑health residential rehabilitation treatment program (MH RRTP). Assess patients, develop comprehensive collaborative care plans, and deliver evidence‑based mental‑health care, documenting all care within required time frames. Collaborate with nursing, physician assistant, and resident teams to evaluate and treat psychiatric and co‑occurring substance‑use disorders. Participate in inpatient, outpatient, and residential care as well as graduate and undergraduate medical education, scientific research, and quality‑assurance activities. Maintain accurate progress notes and ensure appropriate documentation with resident and attending notes. Engage in performance monitoring, peer review, and process‑improvement activities as directed by the Chief of Service or designee.
