Physician - Primary Care New England The Veterans Health Administration is seeking Primary Care Physicians for VA New England Healthcare System facilities across VISN 1. This position supports the Patient Aligned Care Team model and provides comprehensive primary care services to Veterans, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, medication management, preventive care, patient education, referrals, and continuity of care coordination. Obtain health histories, perform physical examinations, and provide patient education. Work collaboratively with health care professionals to support patient, service, and medical center goals. Promote and participate in the Patient Aligned Care Team model of care. Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings to establish diagnoses and respond appropriately to emergency health problems. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests as appropriate. Recommend treatment, referrals, and consultations to other clinical services. Initiate, evaluate, and modify medication orders. Follow performance measure guidelines, including clinical reminders, access and timeliness standards, prescription order entry, VA formulary requirements, and customer service standards. Arrange continuity of care across the VHA system as needed. Provide on-site leadership to ensure care is completed within required timeframes. Participate in quality improvement activities. Participate in medical center committees as assigned. Maintain ethical standards and support a harmonious, customer-service-oriented work environment. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an approved school. Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must have completed approved residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification, or otherwise meet VA physician residency requirements. Must pass a background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for VA health care personnel. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. May be required to serve a probationary period. Preferred Experience: Board certification is preferred. Physical Requirements: Must meet physical standards for the position. Requires lifting 15 to 44 pounds. Requires pushing for approximately two hours. Requires reaching above the shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking and standing for three to five hours, and kneeling. Requires rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid use is permitted.
