Job Summary This position is responsible for managing survey vendor contracts (Land Surveying Coordinator) to provide quality land surveying services in a safe and cost‑effective manner. Activities include developing project scope, creating in‑house estimates, generating requests for quotes, entering data into the work management tool, monitoring contractors and projects to assure quality, schedules, and budgets, processing invoices, performing quality checks on survey deliverables, delivering finished products to customers or requesters, and closing out projects in the work management tool. The incumbent should have a broad understanding of land survey concepts and rely on regional professional service providers to meet customer demands. This person will also act as a problem‑solver for customers and employees, applying new technology to increase quality and manage project cost while supporting company goals, policies, and procedures and representing the company professionally to all internal and external contacts. Responsibilities Leadership, Survey Vendor Oversight : Safely oversees contractor staff and outside consultants responsible for surveys including, but not limited to, transmission lines, distribution lines, gas lines, dam deformations, construction staking, land acquisitions and disposals of enterprise assets for a designated region; provides leadership to contracted survey crews by setting an example for professionalism, customer service, and honest communications; promotes teamwork and participates in the resolution of team woes and recommends employee training and development; interweaves internal resources and external contractors into a seamless service. Project Management : Serves as a representative of Land Services to monitor, inspect, and review survey work performed by contractors for compliance with technical specifications, work schedules, budgets, and recommends approval of deliverables; directs multiple survey vendors, solves complex issues involving conflicting data, and ensures quality of deliverables; maintains and provides management with regular progress reports on survey projects noting contractor performance, offers feedback to reinforce good results and suggest corrective actions; thoroughly inspects and checks deliverables for accuracy and correctness (field work, maps, electronic files); attends project meetings and obtains cost estimates and delivery dates from vendors; monitors contractors to ensure cost, timeframes, and performance under Master Service Agreements and project control requirements; reviews invoices, recommends payment based on performance and advises management of anticipated cost overruns; establishes effective working relationships with internal and external personnel/groups; mediates and coordinates problem resolution between departments in real‑estate acquisition and disposition; works with vendors and governmental agencies as needed to acquire or resolve issues. Professional Leadership and Development : Demonstrates sound judgment and creativity in resolving engineering/technical analysis problems; determines and corrects root‑cause problems; ensures the observance of safety and environmental compliance with internal staff and contract survey vendors and provides necessary training; participates in professional organizations and associations (e.g., State Society of Surveyors, IRWA); stays abreast of all laws and governmental regulations affecting land surveying. Basic/Required Qualifications – Land Surveying Coordinator Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or related field and 2+ years related work experience, OR High School/GED and 4+ years related work experience. Basic/Required Qualifications – Senior Land Surveying Coordinator Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or related field and 5+ years related work experience, OR High School/GED and 7+ years related work experience. Desired Qualifications Professional Land Surveyor certification. Ability to coordinate and direct all phases of a contract and strong project management skills. Excellent organization and documentation skills. Proven ability to read construction plans. Ability to work independently to check deliverables; performs complex computations using standard surveying software. Critical thinking and decision‑making skills to overcome obstacles on difficult assignments. Additional Preferred Qualifications Extensive knowledge of professional surveying practices and procedures. Ability to understand and develop scope of work. Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting land surveying. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a large team consisting of professional and technical staff. Project management background. Familiarity with high‑voltage transmission route surveys. Good understanding of Duke’s real estate and rights‑of‑way. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. 4 years or more progressive land surveying management. Working Conditions Field mobility – work at various field locations as needed, after onboarding; field employees should reside within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned location. Frequent visits to contract surveying firms. Frequent visits to field survey projects in hot and cold weather conditions. Occasional travel within the region and other regions within the Duke Energy service area. Preferred location Cincinnati, OH; the final location will be determined at the time of offer based on business needs.
