Associate Portfolio Manager, Custom Indexing

As an Associate Portfolio Manager, you will help manage complex multiple product lines, produce research reports for internal and external use, and produce market commentary and client reviews. You will support the money‑management functions of portfolio managers’ core strategies and funds, and contribute to investment decisions and communication materials. Location This hybrid role requires a minimum of three days per week onsite at an Orion office. Candidates must be located within commuting distance to the office and may be required to travel to other office locations as business needs change. Responsibilities Provide fund‑specific research to assist the money‑management of portfolio managers’ core strategies and funds. Create reports and charts with economic data pulled from Bloomberg research software and other sources and produce accompanying commentary for the portfolio management team and Investment Committee. Explore various software and other methods for attribution analysis. Create and report attribution analysis for Orion core investment strategies to the portfolio management team and Investment Committee. Contribute to performance projections and predictions of various sectors, aiding in voting decisions to deviate from benchmark portfolios, and present these to the portfolio management team and Investment Committee. Assist/co‑manage the money‑management of AdvisorOne Funds. Meet regularly with the portfolio management team to contribute research and investment ideas that aid in the investment decision‑making process. Manage and monitor small fund families to coordinate with Orion’s major investment themes. Assist the lead portfolio manager with proposals, client and rep phone calls, allocation decisions, and the creation of marketing pieces. Manage and monitor the allocations of sub‑advisory lines. Assist in managing multi‑asset‑class portfolios, including asset allocation and security selection decisions. Help develop strategies to take advantage of investment opportunities within identified secular trends. Assist with decisions on investment mix and policy, matching investments to objectives, asset allocation for individuals and institutions, and balancing risk against performance, using recommendations from analysts based on research conducted on various securities and investments. Create internal communications, including daily commentary and correspondence with internal departments, acting as a liaison between marketing and portfolio management. Create client reviews that provide detailed analysis of a client’s performance and commentary on the client’s specific strategy. Produce weekly external commentary and assist with quarterly market reviews and other external commentary visible to advisors, clients, and partners. Participate in the communication and presentation of portfolio manager’s strategies and mutual funds. Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of experience in an investment research or related role. Prior experience working within the financial services industry. Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field. Ability to own and manage relationships with stakeholders and work effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
