SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager (or designee), the professional registered nurse acts as a patient advocate in the application of the nursing process. The role focuses on age‑specific needs of patients and supports the organization’s values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. The nurse demonstrates core Success Factors such as Instilling Trust, Valuing Differences, Patient and Community Focus, and Collaboration. RESPONSIBILITIES Recognize and report deviations from patient or established norms, including patient responses to treatment, and document nursing interventions. Provide basic comfort and support according to patient needs. Foster patient and family participation to achieve optimum functioning and activities of daily living. Set priorities in individual patient assignments and seek guidance when necessary. Identify, assess, and respond to emergency situations, planning for potential needs. Define nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes; modify nursing plans of care and document on appropriate assessment forms. Implement nursing interventions, evaluate based on patient outcomes, and modify the plan of care accordingly. Maintain knowledge of contemporary nursing practice within the legal framework of the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act. Attend training and retraining to keep current knowledge of hospital and patient care practices. Use established protocols and collaborate with the health team to facilitate therapeutic interventions and desired patient outcomes. Participate in quality improvement processes and risk management activities. Attend unit‑based or hospital meetings to facilitate patient care management. Function cooperatively and productively in the work environment. Integrate complete physical assessment with nursing assessment and records to develop a comprehensive and individualized plan of care. Follow all documentation guidelines per policy and procedure. Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established policies. Demonstrate self‑direction in maintaining and advancing clinical and professional competency. Provide functional guidance and direction to LPNs, CNAs, and other licensed personnel as required. Assume shift charge responsibility when assigned, maintaining an overview of unit activities and delegating work responsibilities equitably, including patient assignments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Rhode Island or through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Knowledge of the Rhode Island Nurse Practice Act and code of professional nurses. Current CPR certification upon hire. EXPERIENCE General proficiency as a staff nurse within three months of employment. Specialty experience relevant to the unit preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Prolonged standing and walking; exposure to all patient elements. Ability to lift/turn patients and equipment; repeated bending, squatting, and stooping. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None. PAY RANGE $35.70 – $71.40.
