Controls Technician

Greif is seeking a Controls Technician to troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment to restore safe and reliable operation. Responsibilities Perform instrumentation and controls work, including installation, calibration, configuration, and loop checks of sensors, transmitters, analyzers, valves, and related devices. Diagnose PLC, HMI, and drive issues at the I/O and device level; isolate faults using schematics, P&IDs, ladder logic, and diagnostic tools; implement corrective actions or partner with controls specialists as needed. Execute preventive and predictive maintenance (vibration, infrared, oil analysis, ultrasound) and translate findings into work orders that reduce unplanned downtime. Conduct root cause analyses of recurring failures; recommend and implement reliability improvements (design changes, condition monitoring routes, spare‑part strategies). Plan and prioritize work orders, determine repair approach (repair/replace/upgrade), and coordinate with operations to schedule equipment access and safe startup. Complete calibrations and documentation to required standards; maintain as‑found/as‑left records and update CMMS histories and asset hierarchies. Identify and request critical spares; provide technical input to MRO inventory, vendor selection, and service contract needs. Read and update technical drawings (electrical schematics, P&IDs, single‑line diagrams) and suggest design improvements for maintainability and reliability. Partner with production, engineering, quality, and EHS to ensure safe work practices (lockout/tagout) and compliance with company procedures and applicable standards. Mentor colleagues and share troubleshooting and reliability best practices; may lead small maintenance tasks or contractor activities on shift. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum 4 years of related experience. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Certifications and training in controls, instrumentation, or related fields are an advantage.
