Transportation Logistics Coordinator

Job Overview Cooper Consolidated is a midstream stevedoring, barge, marine, and logistics services provider located along the lower Mississippi River between Southwest Pass and Baton Rouge. We coordinate freight handling and movements across the U.S. inland waterway system, and we are seeking a Logistics Coordinator. Job Responsibilities This role is primarily responsible for coordinating all aspects of logistics for one or more means of transportation, such as rail/truck/container/barge/specialty commodities, bulk and other freight/cargo. Track and/or coordinate various transportation assets (barges, containers, trucks, vessels, rail, and inventory) to ensure on‑time delivery. Manage activities related to transportation mode(s) (receive and process applications/documentation; process and apply outbound barges, coding and flagging within internal systems, loading instructions, handle re‑consignment, address damage and quality claims). Monitor conditions that affect transportation modes and communicate with internal and external stakeholders (merchandising team, customers, carriers, barge lines, customer agents, international banks, vessel agents, elevator personnel, and other service providers). Collaborate with Accounting to ensure accurate billing and collection of past‑due accounts. Assist facility managers in tracking logistical movements where applicable. Maintain a list of approved vendors (trucking companies, barge lines, rail lines) and ensure vendors remain current on all company insurance requirements. Assist in prospecting new trucking and/or rail companies and obtain approval for them to haul for the company. Administer, review, and monitor logistics‑related contracts. Prepare, verify, and distribute operational and performance reports (transportation volumes, records or tonnage, shrink of product loaded on the barge for customers, number of railcars used by customers per month, revenue, storage, and other expenses; IP and by‑product vessel loadings, GMO test results, performance reports). Verify and/or approve invoices related to logistics services (destination barge and/or rail demurrage, switch and re‑consignment charges, barge inspections, rail storage) where applicable. Verify inspections and tests on modes of transportation to ensure contract specifications are met. Analyze information for recurring reports. Perform other duties as assigned such as coordination of various operations (e.g., dryer). Education & Experience Education Required – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and working experience. Experience Required – 3 years’ related experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of applicable industry and industry trends. General knowledge of basic accounting principles. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization. Demonstrated risk management aptitude. Effective time management and organizational skills. Strong problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced work environment. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Ability to work extended hours on an as‑needed basis. Physical Demands & Requirements Predominantly sedentary work. Occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires hearing and the ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
