Mammography Technologist

Major Responsibilities Determination of appropriate Mammography technique and position for patients using immobilization and support devices to ensure optimum film quality. Position patient, adjust equipment, immobilization and support devices as necessary, maintaining courtesy at all times. Determine appropriate Mammography technique based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain quality films for radiologists. Operate advanced mammography equipment and maintain supplies. Prepare mammography room by ensuring supplies are stocked. Alert department supervisor immediately of equipment malfunctions. Distribute information required by State law and other governing agencies. Maintain timely flow of scheduled patients and emergencies. Secure patient history regarding reason for test and record on appropriate form. Maintain positive customer relations and proper phone etiquette. Provide adequate shielding to every patient per radiation safety standards. Demonstrate rapport and assist others when necessary. Maintain patient records, answer phones and schedule exams. Label all mammograms per department criteria and standards. Check film quality to ensure optimal quality. Perform quality control activities per ACR guidelines, document results and notify supervisor when malfunctions occur or processor QC exceeds boundaries. Competently perform film reviews and determine if more views are necessary. Identify artifacts on film and assist in problem solving. Maintain professional manner when relating to patients, physicians, family members, etc. Maintain housekeeping duties: cleanliness, neatness, appearance of work areas. Adhere to department procedures regarding patient safety. Report spills to appropriate person. Follow policy on lifting to prevent injuries. Use universal precautions to protect self from bodily fluid contact. Adhere to department policy and procedures regarding exposure prevention. Provide safe, secure patient/work environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazards. Participate in professional development: attend inservices, continuing education programs relevant to department goals. Participate in team problem solving to improve quality and operations. Maintain current ARRT mammography and radiology certification, IDNS licensure. Attend CPR classes to maintain re-certification. Maintain required amount of mammography CME credits for ARRT, IDNS, MQSA and other governing agencies. Position Type Full time, 40 hours per week. Schedule: Monday–Friday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, every 3rd Saturday. Education and Experience Required Graduate of an accredited School of Radiographic Technology. 3 years of radiography required; mammography experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Knowledge of Health Information System. Ability to anticipate patient, employee, and department needs and refer for action. Good communication skills. Licensed Radiographic Technology by the IDNS. CPR certification. ARRT registered in radiography and mammography. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Radiation exposure. Ability to work weekends. Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients. May be exposed to infectious disease and hazardous materials. Recognize needs and behaviors of various age groups of patients. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; use patient handling equipment when necessary.
