Senior Database Administrator (5+ Years) Position Overview
The Database Administrator (DBA) will support the design, administration, optimization, security, and maintenance of enterprise database environments. This role is responsible for database architecture, schema design, performance tuning, operational support, and data management across SQL Server, Oracle, and GIS platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong database administration expertise, experience supporting enterprise applications, and the ability to collaborate with application, infrastructure, and business teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing database solutions. Key Responsibilities Database Administration & Operations
- Perform daily database administration and operational support activities.
- Monitor database health, availability, performance, and capacity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related production issues.
- Ensure database environments meet organizational security and operational standards.
- Maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Design, implement, and maintain relational database structures and schemas.
- Support application development teams with database design and optimization.
- Assist in developing enterprise data architecture supporting business and application requirements.
- Analyze business and technical requirements to develop efficient database solutions.
- Conduct database performance monitoring and tuning.
- Optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, indexes, and database structures.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across enterprise applications.
- Review database usage patterns and recommend improvements.
- Perform SQL code reviews and ensure compliance with development standards.
- Support application enhancement and modernization initiatives.
- Develop and review database objects, scripts, and database deployment processes.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and reliability.
- Support GIS and spatial database environments.
- Administer and support ESRI SDE Geodatabases and ArcGIS Server environments.
- Assist with spatial data management and GIS application support.
- Optimize GIS database performance and availability.
- Develop and maintain database administration procedures and technical documentation.
- Establish and maintain database standards and best practices.
- Support quality assurance and compliance activities.
- Create technical specifications and database-related documentation.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior technical staff.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Data Analysts, Developers, and Infrastructure teams.
- Provide technical guidance on database design, administration, and performance optimization.
- Support enterprise database strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of database administration experience.
- Expert-level experience with:
- SQL Server 2012 and higher
- Oracle 10g and higher
