Guidance Counselor

Position Title: School Counselor Reports To: Principal Location: Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School, Memphis, TN FLSA Status: Exempt Position Summary Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School is seeking a compassionate, licensed School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of our K-5 scholars. The School Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, collaborate with teachers and families, and develop programs that foster a positive, inclusive school climate. Key Responsibilities Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. Develop and implement comprehensive counseling programs aligned with state standards and best practices. Support teachers and staff in addressing student behavioral and emotional concerns. Collaborate with parents and guardians to support student success and well-being. Conduct crisis intervention and provide appropriate referrals when necessary. Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including progress reports and intervention plans. Lead social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives and school-wide programs. Participate in professional development and contribute to the school’s continuous improvement efforts. Qualifications Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field. Current Tennessee School Counselor License or eligibility for licensure. Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred. Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning, counseling techniques, and child development. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity. Working Conditions Full-time position based on a standard school calendar. Work is primarily in a classroom and office environment, with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.
