Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg Ortho

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with a focus on Med/Surg Orthopedics to join our surgical team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care in a surgical setting specializing in orthopedics and joints.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients on a surgical unit with a focus on orthopedic surgeries, including total knee and hip replacements, spinal fusions, and orthopedic trauma.
• Monitor patient conditions, including cardiac rhythms, and respond to emergencies as part of a rapid response or code team.
• Administer IV therapy and manage peripheral line care and phlebotomy needs.
• Implement respiratory management techniques including the use of nasal cannulas and non-invasive airway management.
• Adhere to isolation precautions and properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in patient education and support to facilitate recovery.
• Document patient care and maintain records accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Med/Surg or Orthopedic nursing.
• Must have prior experience with cardiac monitoring, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Knowledge of total joint replacement procedures and spinal surgery is preferred.
• Comfortable using Pyxis and EPIC systems for medication management and documentation.
• Ability to float to different units as needed based on patient census.
• Must successfully pass EKG testing prior to start.

Work Schedule

Full-time positions available on a 3x12 hour night shift basis (18:45 - 07:15). Weekend rotation required every other week. Scheduling is based on unit needs.

Patient Population

Our unit specializes in surgical procedures with a primary focus on orthopedic conditions, treating patients typically recovering from total knee and hip replacements, spinal surgeries, and other orthopedic trauma cases. The average daily patient census is 34 with a total of 48 beds available.

Additional Information

Scrubs are not provided; however, navy blue scrubs are required. Orientation details will be provided based on unit needs.
