Technical Lead, Application Engineering (Investment/Risk)

Vanguard has a Full-time Technical Lead position in our Malvern, PA QRAPS Equity and Fixed Income Investment Risk & Analytics Team. This role provides technical leadership for vendor platforms, AWS-based applications, and risk analytics solutions supporting investment risk analysis, research, stress testing, back-testing, and reporting capabilities.As a Technical Lead, you will lead the design, development, implementation, and support of scalable full-stack technology solutions while providing technical direction across multiple initiatives. You will partner with architects, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to deliver vendor integrations, cloud-native platforms, APIs, AI-enabled solutions, and automation capabilities that improve business outcomes.The successful candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in application architecture, solution design, engineering standards, risk management, security, testing, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. This role requires sound technical judgment to evaluate trade-offs, manage technical risks and dependencies, perform root cause analysis, ensure high-quality deliverables, and guide teams through complex technology decisions.A key responsibility of this role is mentoring and developing engineers, establishing engineering best practices, reviewing technical designs and documentation, and ensuring adherence to technology, security, and development standards. The Technical Lead will influence stakeholders, communicate effectively across business and technology organizations, and drive innovative solutions that balance delivery objectives with long-term sustainability.Key QualificationsDeep expertise in full-stack application development, cloud-native platforms, APIs, data architecture, analytics, and modern engineering practices.Strong technical leadership in architecture, solution design, engineering standards, design reviews, technical governance, and complex technology decision-making.Ability to deliver sustainable technology solutions while balancing business objectives, delivery timelines, risk, technical debt, operational supportability, maintainability, and architectural integrity.Experience leading application development, implementation, testing, support, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.Experience leveraging emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development and AI-enabled solutions, to improve engineering productivity and solution quality.Strong collaboration, stakeholder management, communication, coaching, and mentoring skills.Knowledge of investment management, portfolio analytics, risk management, and investment systems.Highly preferred: Strong knowledge of investment management processes, investment data, portfolio analytics, risk management, and investment systems, with the ability to combine technical and business expertise to deliver effective solutions for Investment Management business needs.Special FactorsSponsorshipVanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position.About VanguardAt Vanguard, we don't just have a mission—we're on a mission.To work for the long-term financial wellbeing of our clients.
