Job Title: Part-Time School Nurse
Location: King Elementary, 3706 Maple Street, Omaha, NE 68111 Reports To: Building Principal Work Schedule/FLSA Status: Part-time, .5 FTE (working 2.5 days/week = 20 hours per week). Specific schedule will be determined based on the needs of the district and in collaboration with the employee, Talent Services, and Building Administration / Exempt Salary Schedule: As outlined in the OEA negotiated agreement, salary will be prorated to reflect part-time (.5 FTE), commensurate to experience and degree Benefits Available for Part-time Certificated Staff as outlined in the OEA Master Agreement

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Central Office Administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Equipment: This position may require the ability to use assistive technology in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS's guidelines for equipment use. Travel: Limited travel may be required. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time, and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative. - Part-time certificated staff with a .5 FTE or more are eligible to receive full health insurance.
- District will pay 50% of the percentage it pays for full-time certificated staff.
- Premium cost will be paid through payroll deductions.
- Group term life insurance eligibility.
- Sick leave, personal leave, and bereavement leave provisions are available.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Completion of a Registered Nursing Program, required.
- Hold a valid nursing license with Nebraska's Department of Health & Human Services or the Nurse Licensure Compact, required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, required
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree or evidence of actively working towards a bachelor's degree, required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Special Services School Nurse Certificate through the Nebraska Department of Education, preferred.
- Ability to develop positive relationships to promote mutual dignity and respect among students and staff.
- Ability and patience to work interactively with students.
- Excellent attendance record.
- Evidence of the willingness and ability to comply with standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.
- This individual will exhibit skills pertinent to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community.
- Skill in organization, time management, communication, and positive interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
- Excellent skills in verbal and written communication.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Outlook and the student information system.
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Knowledge of OPS's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them.
- Provides nursing/health care for children of various ages with varied medical issues.
- Provides on-site health assessments and develops/implements appropriate emergency health care plans.
- Ensuring compliance of the state's immunization program.
- Continual maintenance of cumulative student health records according to statutory requirements.
- Takes appropriate measures in case of injury, communicable disease symptoms, signs of abuse or other condition, which affect the welfare of an individual or group of students.
- Maintains a secure location for all medications and medical equipment to ensure safety of all.
- Provides meaningful communication and educates in areas pertaining to student health.
- Participates in the building's crisis team.
- Provides appropriate medical care for school staff and visitors during a crisis situation.
- Participates in the wellness committee for the school.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in a multicultural urban setting.
- Demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills and awareness of community services.
- Working with and understanding a diverse student population.
- Maintains open lines of communications with parents, guardians and staff.
- Coordinates with other school professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards with ethical and professional performance established by district policy as well as the State Board of Education.
- Works collaboratively to achieve the overall purpose of the program and support the District's vision, aims and goals.

- Work in school building environments.
- Contact with personnel within the district and other stakeholders
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the building administration in order to complete day to day tasks
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
- Must understand and respond appropriately to stakeholder needs and maintain a positive attitude with all
- Expected to interact with all internal and external stakeholders in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive service
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
