Ambulatory Care Clerk – Northwell Health, Brooklyn, NY Req Number: 170421 Job Description Performs registration, scheduling, medical record preparation, and related clerical duties in support of the ambulatory patient care setting. Job Responsibilities Greets and directs visitors to appropriate locations while maintaining patient confidentiality. Interviews patient or representative to obtain required demographic and insurance coverage data; instructs patient or guardian on required documentation for the visit. Secures patient or guardian signatures on required forms as per department policies and procedures, ensuring all information is complete and accurate. Enters information into the department computer system and acknowledges patient visits to close out encounters. Verifies insurance coverage by telephone and/or electronically. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals by identifying every patient by full name and date of birth. Creates patient appointments according to criteria established by individual providers. Requests related patient test results from appropriate locations upon request. Contacts patients to cancel or reschedule appointments as required. Performs appointment follow-up and reschedules patients as necessary, documenting activity in the patient’s medical record. Creates or obtains medical records for scheduled appointments; prepares records by reviewing demographic sheets, consents, test results, consult reports, and inserting progress notes. Identifies missing information and notifies the attending physician if necessary. Screens and transfers telephone calls, answers questions, records and relays messages appropriately. Validates visitor parking and issues Metro cards, as required. Gathers patient medical records for peer review or quality-control projects; obtains records from storage locations as needed. Reports complaints, hazardous conditions, and equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel per policies and procedures. Compiles and calculates various statistics and quality-control information as required. Performs related clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, etc. Performs any other duties as required. Job Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Must pass the site training program within the normal probationary period. Minimum of six (6) months of prior related clerical experience, required. Working knowledge of computer applications, required. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional Salary Detail The salary range for this position is $25.70 to $27.62 per hour. The salary range is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant and may be modified in the future.
