Registered Nurse Medical Surgical Orthopedic

St. David's Medical Center, part of St. David's HealthCare, is seeking a Registered Nurse Medical Surgical Orthopedic to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in our full-service hospital in central Austin. In this role, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on a busy medical-surgical orthopedic unit, often with complex neurological and post-operative needs. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans, administer medications and treatments, manage orthopedic devices and post-surgical care, and closely monitor patients’ neurologic and hemodynamic status, including pain management, mobility, and wound healing.

Working collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and support staff, you will coordinate care across the continuum, support safe discharges, and educate patients and families on disease processes, post-operative expectations, medications, and self-care at home. You will utilize advanced technology, including electronic health records and monitoring systems, and follow hospital policies, safety protocols, and infection-prevention standards at all times. As part of a culture dedicated to excellence, teamwork, and patient-centered practice, you will actively participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality and performance-improvement activities, and evidence-based practice initiatives to improve patient outcomes on the unit.

The Registered Nurse Medical Surgical Orthopedic is expected to demonstrate strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment, recognizing and responding quickly to changes in patient condition. You will precept and mentor new nurses and nursing assistants as needed, support a respectful and collaborative work environment, and model professional communication with colleagues, patients, and families.
