Assistant Professor in Physics and Astronomy
Calvin University invites applications for a full-time regular faculty member to join the Physics and Astronomy Department at the rank of assistant professor, to teach physics and to do physics research, beginning in August 2027, pending administrative approval. The department will also consider applicants seeking a reduced time position and/or wishing to start in 2028 or 2029.
The department is five faculty members dedicated to excellent teaching, mentoring, and scholarship. It regularly offers upper-level undergraduate theory and lab courses that prepare students for graduate study in physics or astrophysics, and has a strong record of placing alumni in outstanding graduate programs and industry jobs. The department also contributes to Calvin's other STEM programs through teaching physics cognate courses and astronomy courses for non-science majors. The faculty member should be able to teach a variety of introductory and intermediate-level undergraduate physics courses, both lecture and lab, and some upper-level undergraduate physics theory courses. The faculty member is expected to maintain an active experimental, computational, or theoretical research program that includes undergraduate research assistants during the summers. The University hosts a number of Centers and Institutes and provides other funding opportunities to support faculty teach and research, including sabbaticals, course releases, summer research stipends, and travel funds.
